A Good Round Leaves More Than a Number on the Scorecard.
Today, I shot 85 and made two birdies.
A few years ago, that might have been the part of the round I remembered most.
But as I drove home, it wasn't the score that stayed in my mind.
It was the people.
One golfer joined my group today because he wanted to watch my swing and ask a few questions about his own game. He had been struggling recently and wasn't enjoying golf as much as before.
During the round, I shared only a couple of simple thoughts about the swing. Nothing complicated. Just a few basic ideas that have helped me over the years.
As the round went on, his ball striking improved noticeably. More importantly, his frustration began to disappear.
Later, he sent me a message.
"Thank you. I feel like I can enjoy golf again."
That meant more to me than any birdie.
Another moment made me smile.
A husband and wife were playing with us, and at one point I heard the husband telling his wife to watch my swing and learn from it.
I laughed when I heard that.
Golf is funny.
You spend years working on your own game, trying to improve little by little. Then one day, without realizing it, your swing becomes something that helps another golfer.
Not because it is perfect.
But because it is repeatable, balanced, and built through experience.
As I get older, I find that the greatest rewards in golf are changing.
A lower score is nice.
A birdie is exciting.
But helping someone enjoy the game again may be even better.
When I left the course, I skipped lunch and drove straight home because Ruby was waiting for me.
On the drive home, I realized something.
A good round leaves more than a number on the scorecard.
Sometimes it leaves encouragement.
Sometimes it leaves confidence.
And sometimes it reminds another golfer why they fell in love with the game in the first place.
KR Summary
