Three Birdies on the Final Par 5

There are days when golf gives you a good score.

And then there are days when golf gives you a memory.

Today was definitely the second kind.

It was just a casual nine-hole practice round, but by the time we arrived at the final Par 5, something special was already developing. Two players in our group had birdie chances, and I happened to be one of them.

Then the unexpected happened.

Our band leader was just off the green and played a chip shot toward the hole. We watched the ball roll, break slightly, and disappear.

Chip-in birdie.

The celebration started immediately.

Now it was my turn.

After a solid driver and a clean 5-wood, I had about 65 meters left to the flag. I focused on making a simple, committed swing. The ball flew exactly as I imagined and finished about one meter from the hole.

A birdie opportunity I couldn't waste.

The putt dropped.

Birdie.

Then came NG PD's turn. He stayed calm, trusted his stroke, and rolled in his birdie putt as well.

Three birdies.

One Par 5.

Four players.

At that point, nobody was thinking about scores anymore.

We were jumping, laughing, high-fiving, and celebrating like kids. It was the final hole of the day, which somehow made the moment even more memorable.

Golf can be a frustrating game.

Sometimes you hit great shots and receive little reward.

Sometimes one mistake seems to follow another.

But every once in a while, the game gives you a moment that reminds you why you fell in love with it in the first place.

Today was one of those moments.

There was another detail that made me smile.

A gentleman from the group ahead had been watching my shots for a while. He had also seen me make a birdie on the final hole last week. Even after finishing his round, he stayed nearby and watched my approach shot from 65 meters.

I knew he was watching.

Oddly enough, I seem to play better when there is a gallery.

Some golfers get nervous.

I get motivated.

Instead of thinking, "Don't mess this up," I find myself thinking, "Let's hit a good one."

Fortunately, today it worked.

Earlier in the round, I had even teased NG PD on the first tee.

"PD, have you ever seen Angie make an NG on the tee box?" **Angie is my English name.

He laughed, because he knew exactly what I meant.

That joke seemed even funnier after all three birdies found the hole at the end of the day.

When I got home, there was one more reason to be grateful.

Ruby had another good night without any accidents.

That may seem unrelated to golf, but it didn't feel unrelated to me.

Sometimes happiness arrives from several directions at once.

A great shot.

Good friends.

Shared laughter.

A memorable finish.

And a peaceful night for someone you love.

Days like this remind me that golf is never just about golf.

It is about people, moments, gratitude, and the joy of being fully present when something wonderful happens.

And today, something wonderful happened.

KR Summary

Quote of the Day

"Sometimes the best part of golf is not the birdie itself, but the people who are smiling beside you when it happens." ⛳😊🐕
