Confidence Is Also a Golf Muscle -
Today was one of those days I will never forget.
I finished my round with 89.
The score wasn't bad.
But during the front nine, I wasn't enjoying golf at all.
For a moment, I even felt like golf had become work instead of joy.
That feeling made me stop and think.
At first, I believed I had simply lost some of my golf muscles.
Over the past eight months, I had gone to the driving range only about 15 times.
Looking back, I should actually be grateful that my swing hadn't disappeared even more.
Then something happened that changed my perspective.
On one par-4 hole, I had about 170 meters left to the green.
I chose my 5-wood.
Without hesitation, I trusted my swing.
The ball flew exactly as I imagined and landed safely on the green.
That single shot reminded me of an important truth.
My swing was still there.
My ability was still there.
What had become weaker wasn't only my golf muscles.
It was my confidence.
Lately, I had been making careful swings instead of committed swings.
At impact, I wasn't giving the ball 100 percent.
Not because I couldn't.
Because I wasn't completely trusting myself.
Then one of my playing partners asked me a simple question.
"Do you enjoy going to the driving range?"
I smiled and answered,
"Very much."
He immediately replied,
"Then go."
He is 74 years old.
He told me he does 300 squats every day, and recently gained about 10 more meters with his driver.
His words didn't sound like advice.
They sounded like encouragement.
He believed I could get my beautiful swing back.
After our round, he even treated us to a wonderful lunch.
His kindness stayed in my heart much longer than my score.
As I wrote this story after playing golf, everything became much clearer.
Golf muscles matter.
Confidence matters.
But both grow through one simple habit.
Consistency.
Now I understand something I couldn't see this morning.
If I want more confidence over the ball,
I need more consistent practice.
Not because someone told me to.
Because I already know what makes me happy.
I don't want to give up golf.
I want to enjoy it for at least the next ten years.
So I have made my decision.
Tomorrow, I will return to the driving range.
Not to hit as many balls as possible,
but to make free swings,
feel solid impact,
rebuild my golf muscles,
and quietly rebuild my confidence.
Today's Verdict
Consistency builds confidence.
Confidence brings joyful golf.
Today, I experienced it.
Now I know what I need to do.
Epilogue
Looking back, today was actually a happy day.
It wasn't because I played great golf.
It was because someone sincerely cared enough to encourage me.
For many years, I have been the one giving advice to others.
Today, I was the one receiving it.
That felt surprisingly warm.
Sometimes, a few sincere words can change someone's direction.
They certainly changed mine.
I'm a lucky Angie to receive such warm encouragement.
Thank you.
I won't forget today.
KR Summary
