Golf and English: Two Powerful Companions for Making Friends Around the World
There are many ways to connect with people, but in my life, I have found two especially meaningful tools:
Golf and English.
At first, I thought they were simply hobbies or skills—one for enjoyment, and one for communication.
But over time, I realized they are much more than that.
They are bridges.
They help me connect with people I have never met before, often more quickly and naturally than I ever expected.
On a golf course, even strangers can become friendly within a few holes.
A simple “Nice shot.”
A shared laugh after a missed putt.
A small conversation while walking down the fairway.
Without trying too hard, the distance between people begins to disappear.
English works in a similar way.
Even when we come from different countries, backgrounds, or cultures, a common language creates immediate understanding.
Sometimes the English is not perfect.
Sometimes the conversations are simple.
But that hardly matters.
What matters is the willingness to connect.
And when golf and English come together, something special happens.
You can travel almost anywhere in the world, join a round of golf, exchange a few words, and suddenly feel less like a stranger.
Friendship may not become deep overnight, but warmth can appear very quickly.
That kind of connection feels especially valuable in our global world today.
Looking back, I think I realized this a long time ago.
Perhaps that is one reason I have continued to love both golf and English so much.
They are not just activities.
They are not just useful skills.
They are two powerful companions that continue to bring new people into my life.
And I hope they will continue helping me make friends for many years to come.
Golf teaches me how to share moments.
English helps me turn those moments into friendships.
That feels like a beautiful gift.
