Golf Is Like Marriage

Golf is funny sometimes. The more you try to control it, the less it listens to you. Just like a husband. Just like a wife. We joke about this often on the course — “Golf is just like your spouse. It never goes the way you want.”😁🤣 You prepare, you plan, you think today will be different. But the ball has its own idea. Sometimes it goes perfectly, and you feel like you finally understand everything. And then, the very next hole, nothing works. You don’t control the other person. You learn them, you adjust, you let go a little. And somehow, in that process, you find rhythm. Golf teaches that quietly. It reminds us that not everything is meant to be controlled. Some things are meant to be experienced, understood, and sometimes … just accepted. Not perfect. But real. Golf, Life, and the Space In Between

These days, life feels like a dream. When I was younger, both life and golf felt the same. Everything was fast. Everything felt important. On the golf course, I was always nervous. My view was narrow. I just wanted to hit the ball well— without really seeing the whole course. But now, things are different. Before I tee off, I take a moment. I look ahead— the fairway slope, the green’s level, high or low, and I quietly match it with my club distance. 천천히, calmly. Not in a hurry. Even if the shot is not perfect, it doesn’t shake me like before. And I realized— life has become the same. Problems still come, but I don’t rush like I used to. I see things a little wider, understand a little faster, and move forward with a quieter mind. Not because everything is perfect— but because I don’t need it to be. Ma...

Driver vs Iron: How Life’s Emotions Change Over Time (드라이버에서 아이언으로!!)

이미지
(golf mindset, life philosophy, emotional growth, aging gracefully, inner peace) At first, life feels like hitting a driver. You swing hard, the ball flies far, and your heart lifts with it. There’s a rush— that surge of excitement, almost like endorphins rising all at once. Everything is about distance, speed, and intensity. How far you can go. How much you can feel. But as time passes, something quietly changes. Life starts to feel more like an iron shot. Not about distance anymore, but about precision. Not “how far did it go?” but “how close did it land?” The emotions are different now. The explosive highs may come less often, and yes… sometimes, you miss that feeling. That pure excitement. That uncontrollable rush. But in return, something else arrives. A calm sense of control. A deeper understanding of yourself. The ability to guide your emotions, instead of being carried by them. You don’t need to swing as hard anymore. Because you already ...

From a Sparkling Star to a Small Garden

When I was young, I had a very clear image of my future face: deep eyes and smiling lips. I even gave myself an English name, Angie from Angel, because I believed I came from a sparkling star. (Yes… a little dramatic, but I liked it.) For the “deep eyes,” I read a lot. Libraries and book stores became my second home, and I somehow ended up earning two master’s degrees—one in Seoul and one in San Francisco. Looking back, I think I was quietly chasing depth without even realizing it. For the “smiling lips,” I tried to live well with people. I wanted to be someone positive, especially for women around me at work. Not perfect—just someone others could feel comfortable standing next to. Back then, I loved going out on weekends. Meeting people, talking, sharing time—it all felt natural. But these days, things are a little different. Now I enjoy staying home more, spending time with my two (very royal) dogs, and taking care of my small garden. I touch the soil, grow vegetables and flowers, an...

Nobody Knows the Result — Just Like Golf

1. The Choice Is Yours In golf, you choose your club. You look at the wind. You check the distance. You read the lie. And then you decide. “This is my club.” 2. But the Result? You can make the best decision… …and still hit a bad shot. A perfect swing can go wrong. A safe choice can fail. Because in golf— Nobody knows the result. 3. Enjoy the Process, Not Just the Result So what should we do? We enjoy the process. Not the result. But the process of making the choice. 4. Accept It — Like a Golfer 받아들이는 태도 (골프의 매너) When the shot goes wrong, good golfers don’t throw their clubs. They accept it. Because they know— “I made that choice.” 5. Learn From It, Don’t Repeat It Every bad shot gives you something. Maybe you chose the wrong club M...

If You Play Golf, You’re Already a Lucky Person

There’s something I’ve been thinking about lately. If you understand golf, and if you are actually playing it now, then you are already a lucky person. Not in a loud way. Not the kind of luck people show off. Just… quietly lucky. Because golf is a game that asks for three things: time, money, and health. Even one missing, and the game slowly slips away from your life. Maybe you don’t have time anymore. Work, family, responsibilities—they take the space. Maybe money becomes tight. And golf, as beautiful as it is, is not a small game to maintain. Or sometimes, it’s the body. A small pain, a stiffness, a loss of balance— and suddenly the swing you trusted doesn’t feel the same. That’s why, if you are standing on the course today, holding a club, feeling the wind, watching your ball fly— that moment is not ordinary. It’s a combination of things going right in your life. We don’t always think about it this way. At first, golf is about distance. Hitting the driver as far as possible. Feeling...

Grace Above Water, Effort Below (백조처럼 살아가는 골프와 인생)

이미지
A swan looks calm and elegant on the surface. But beneath the water, its legs are constantly moving . Golf—and life—feel exactly the same. From the outside, a good swing looks effortless.A smooth round seems natural. But behind that moment, there is always quiet, consistent work. I don’t train in a complicated or intense way. Instead, I build my body through my daily life. Early in the morning, I walk for about an hour with my two 10-year-old Jindo dogs that I’ve raised since they were born.We walk together at least twice a day. I also swim two or three times a week, and I stretch regularly to keep my body flexible and balanced. But when I step onto the golf course,I can feel the difference. A stable lower body,a smoother swing, and a rhythm that doesn’t easily break. Just like the swan, what people see is only the surface. The real work is always happening underneath.
