What Made Me Smile Today? - 오늘은 또 어떤 즐거운 일이 있었을까?
These days, summer in Jeju is incredibly hot.
Still, staying home all morning feels like wasting a beautiful day, so I joined our regular 9-hole golf group at 6:30 a.m.
Thankfully, the clouds stayed with us until the end of the round. By the time the sun finally took over, we were already walking off the 9th green.
The happiest moment came on a par-3.
PD hit a beautiful tee shot that stopped about 30 centimeters (one foot) from the hole.
We all laughed.
"That's it! Today's golf is complete. You can go home now!"
Just before he tapped in his birdie, I stopped him.
"Wait! Don't tap it in yet. I have to take a picture first!"
I wasn't thinking about my blog.
I simply wanted to capture a happy moment for a friend.
After taking the picture, I played my own shot, chipped onto the green, and made my par putt.
It turned into a happy hole for both of us.
Later that morning, I shared PD's photo in our golf group.
The comments were almost as much fun as the shot itself.
One friend joked,
"Too bad it wasn't a hole-in-one. Next time, you'll have to throw a huge celebration!"
(In Korea, we often joke that a hole-in-one deserves such a big celebration that you would have to "slaughter a cow and a pig," a traditional expression for hosting a grand feast.)
Without missing a beat, PD replied,
"Then I'll have to add a chicken and a fish too!"
Another friend joined in,
"Better get hole-in-one insurance first!"
We all laughed again.
Sometimes the laughter after the round lasts even longer than the round itself.
PD has a wonderful sense of humor.
Maybe it's because of his years in broadcasting, or maybe that's simply who he is.
Either way, he has a special gift for making everyone feel comfortable.
Before the round even started, another small moment made me smile.
An older golfer I had met before quietly looked at me and said,
"You look beautiful today."
It was only a few words, but they stayed with me all morning.
Before we headed home, the leader of our 9-hole group smiled and said,
"Angie, please make sure to join us at least once a month."
That simple invitation meant more than he probably realized.
Being remembered as someone people enjoy spending time with is one of the nicest compliments I can receive.
My own golf also felt much more stable today.
My driver was finally back in rhythm, finding the middle of the fairway with confidence again, and my putting felt solid.
There was one brief awkward moment with someone I had just met, but I apologized if my words had been misunderstood and simply focused on my own game.
Some moments deserve our attention.
Others are better left behind.
After golf, I stopped by a supermarket, filled my cart with good food, and headed home.
A steak.
A cold beer.
And another ordinary summer morning that quietly became a beautiful memory.
Only later, while writing this post, did I realize something.
The picture I had taken wasn't for my blog.
It was simply for a friend.
Yet somehow, it became one of my favorite memories of the day.
Maybe that's what friendship does.
One small act of kindness often ends up becoming a gift for both people.
Today's Verdict
The best part of golf isn't always the perfect shot.
Sometimes, it's simply sharing the moment—and having someone to laugh with long after the round is over.

요즘 제주는 정말 덥다.
그래도 집에만 있기에는 아까운 아침이라 오늘도 아침 6시 30분, 9홀 라운드에 나갔다.
다행히 구름이 끝까지 햇볕을 가려주었다. 라운드가 끝날 무렵 해가 쨍하게 떠올랐고, 오늘만큼은 구름이 그렇게 고마울 수가 없었다.
오늘 가장 즐거웠던 순간은 파3 홀이었다.
PD의 티샷이 홀컵에서 약 30cm에 딱 붙었다.
우리 모두 웃으며 말했다.
"오늘 골프는 다 했네! 이제 집에 가도 되겠다!"
나는 얼른 말했다.
"잠깐! 아직 넣지 마요. 사진부터 찍어야 해!"
버디 퍼트를 하기 직전의 모습을 사진으로 남겼다.
사실 그 사진은 내 블로그에 올리려고 찍은 것이 아니었다.
친구의 행복한 순간을 남겨주고 싶었을 뿐이다.
사진을 찍고 나서 나도 어프로치를 붙였고, 파 퍼트를 성공했다.
그 홀은 우리 둘 모두에게 기분 좋은 홀이 되었다.
집에 와서 보니, 그 사진이 어느새 오늘 내 이야기의 한 장면이 되어 있었다.
오전에 PD의 사진을 밴드에 올리며 축하 글을 남겼다.
그런데 댓글이 더 재미있었다.
한 분이,
"홀인원이 될 수 있었는데 아쉬워요. 다음에는 소도 잡고 돼지도 잡아야겠네요!"
라고 쓰셨다.
한국에서는 큰 경사가 있을 때 '소 잡고 돼지 잡는다'는 표현을 쓰곤 한다.
큰 잔치를 벌인다는 뜻이다.
그러자 PD가 바로 댓글을 달았다.
"닭이랑 물고기도 잡을게요~ ㅋㅋ"
또 다른 분은,
"홀인원 보험부터 들어 놓으세요."
댓글을 읽으며 또 한 번 크게 웃었다.
라운드는 끝났지만 웃음은 계속 이어졌다.
PD는 방송을 해서 그런지, 원래 성격이 그런지 몰라도 말에 재치가 있다.
무엇보다 사람을 참 편안하게 해 주는 여유가 있다.
그래서 누구와도 자연스럽게 잘 어울리는 것 같다.
라운드를 시작하기 전에도 기분 좋은 일이 있었다.
예전에 만났던 한 어르신이 나를 보시더니 조용히 말씀하셨다.
"예뻐요."
짧은 한마디였지만 오전 내내 기분이 좋았다.
라운드를 마치고 헤어질 때는 9홀 밴드장님이 웃으며 말씀하셨다.
"엔지, 한 달에 한 번은 꼭 나와 주세요."
그 말이 참 감사했다.
누군가가 함께하고 싶은 사람으로 기억해 준다는 것은 참 기분 좋은 일인 것 같다.
오늘은 내 골프도 한결 안정적이었다.
드라이버는 다시 리듬을 찾은 것처럼 편안하게 페어웨이를 향해 날아갔고, 퍼팅도 만족스러웠다.
잠깐 어색한 일도 있었지만, 정중히 사과하고 내 골프에 집중했다.
지나가는 일은 그냥 지나가게 두는 것이 가장 좋다.
라운드를 마치고 큰 마트에 들러 먹고 싶은 것들을 잔뜩 샀다.
집에 와서 소고기 스테이크와 시원한 맥주 한 잔.
오늘도 참 잘 살았다는 기분이 들었다.
글을 쓰다 보니 문득 이런 생각이 들었다.
친구를 위해 찍어준 사진 한 장이,
어느새 오늘 내 하루를 가장 잘 기억하게 해 주는 사진이 되어 있었다.
아마 행복도 그런 것 아닐까.
누군가를 위해 했던 작은 배려가,
결국 내게도 좋은 추억으로 돌아오는 것.
오늘도 참 많이 웃었던 하루였다. 😊
