Holding the Peak is Harder Than Reaching It - 오르는 것보다, 지키는 마음가짐

There was a time when my days were driven by one direction—forward.

More growth, more progress, more improvement.
It felt natural, almost expected.

But somewhere along the way, something quietly shifted.

Now, my focus is different.
Not on gaining more, but on keeping what I already have.
Not on climbing endlessly, but on standing steady where I am.

Because once you reach a peak,
what follows is rarely another climb.
More often, it’s a descent waiting patiently in the background.

So these days, my goal is simple.
Hold the peak a little longer.
And even if I begin to come down,
do it slowly, gently, with awareness.

Golf has been teaching me this in its own honest way.

There was a time when making a birdie felt like a small victory—
but almost predictably, the next hole would fall apart.
Too much excitement, too much desire to repeat the high.

Now, I see it differently.

After a birdie, I don’t chase another one.
I aim for a calm par.
I let go of the urge to push.
I soften the swing.
I quiet the mind.

And something interesting happens—
I begin to enjoy not the result, but the control.
Not the score, but the balance.

Holding steady takes more awareness than pushing forward.
Letting go of 욕심 (greed) takes more strength than chasing success.

Maybe that’s why
keeping what we have
often feels harder than gaining something new.

But there’s a quiet kind of satisfaction in it.

Not loud.
Not dramatic.
Just… steady.
