Why I Chose to Stay in Jeju Instead of Big Cities - 편안한 장소, 제주
I’ve been to big cities.
Seoul, San Francisco, New York.
Many places in Europe.
But I chose to stay in Jeju.
There was a time when I thought big cities meant more opportunities.
More people.
More energy.
More chances to grow.
And yes, they were exciting.
But something didn’t feel complete.
No matter how great the city was,
I always felt a little tired.
Not physically,
but mentally.
Then I realized something simple.
It’s not about how big the city is.
It’s about how comfortable you feel in your life.
In Jeju, everything feels different.
I can speak my native language.
I can connect with people deeply, without effort.
There’s no pressure to prove anything.
And at the same time,
I’m still connected to the world.
Through English,
through golf,
through the people I meet.
I don’t feel limited here.
In fact, I feel more free.
Yesterday, after a round of golf,
someone asked me if I had materials to study English.
So I shared a few things.
Later that day,
I received a message:
“Thank you so much.”
It was a small moment.
But it meant something.
I realized,
I don’t need a big city to live a meaningful life.
I just need to be where I can be myself,
and still connect with others.
Jeju gives me that.
Peace,
connection,
and enough space to breathe.
I’m not against big cities.
They’re great.
But for me,
this is enough.
And maybe,
this is exactly what I was looking for.
What place makes you feel most like yourself?
🇰🇷 오늘의 한줄
멀리 가지 않아도, 이미 충분한 곳에 살고 있다.
