A Beautiful Day of Golf, Friendship, and Quiet Motivation

Yesterday, I had a wonderful round of golf at Lotte Skyhill Jeju Country Club.

This coming October, there will be an amateur golf tournament at Ora Country Club inJeju.
Normally, I’m not very interested in competitions, but one of my close younger friends has been practicing golf very seriously, so I decided to join and simply enjoy being on the same team with her.

The prize money made us laugh a little—
US10,000 dollars for first place, and US 5,000 dollars for second.

So I joked with her,
“Then you can take first, and I’ll take second.” 😊

It sounded playful, but somehow, saying it out loud made us both a little more focused.

My friend is a long hitter, and to my surprise, many of our drives landed almost side by side.
The weather was cool and perfect, and our swings felt free and confident.

At one point, our caddie smiled and said,

“I’ve been a caddie for 13 years, and I’ve never seen women hit the ball this beautifully and powerfully. It’s a joy just to watch.”

That kind of compliment made all of us smile.

One of the people playing with us kept praising both of us throughout the round, and I found myself praising my younger friend even more. Watching someone improve with such dedication is inspiring.

She made a birdie on the front nine and happily gave the caddie a small tip.
Later, when I made a birdie on the back nine, another tip was given in celebration.

It wasn’t about the money, of course.
It was simply a small, joyful way to share the moment.

We even jokingly promised that if either of us wins the US10,000 dollars prize in October, we should share something meaningful with the person who encouraged us so warmly that day.

By the end of the round, my friend and I started calling that experienced golfer “our coach.” 😊
Her short game is exceptional, and her many years of experience quietly showed in every shot.

As for me, I realized something too—
I’m hitting the ball farther now than I did just a year ago.

That felt surprisingly meaningful.

Golf is funny that way.
At first, you think it’s about distance, technique, or score.

But over time, you begin to understand:

Some rounds are remembered not for the score, but for the people, the laughter, and the feeling that everything was beautifully in sync.

Yesterday was one of those rounds.

KR Summary
