A Day Full of Small Victories

Today was one of those rare days that quietly reminds me:

Life can be unexpectedly delightful.

This morning, I played a round of golf with three close male friends.
Since they all played from the white tees, I decided to join them there too.

To be honest, the course was not easy.
There were many moments when things could have gone wrong.
And of course, the men hit their drives much farther than I did—sometimes much farther.

But golf, as we all know, is not a game of distance.
It is a game of patience, rhythm, and mental strength.

While everyone joked around and tried to shake each other’s confidence with playful comments, I stayed calm.
Actually, I played even better on the back nine.

In the end, the scores were:

88 / 90 / 94 / 99

And yes—
I came in first.

Even I was a little surprised.

My friends were endlessly talkative—perhaps even more than I was.
They teased each other, shouted “Nice shot!” when deserved, and behaved like cheerful little boys trapped in older men’s bodies.

The caddie and I sat together in the front of the cart, laughing nearly every hole.

At one point, we looked at each other and said,

“These older men are so noisy… and so childish.”

And somehow, that made the day even more enjoyable.

But golf was not the only victory today.

One of my students—the one who often gives me the most headaches and requires the most patience—told her mother that English is now her favorite subject.

Her mother sent me a cake coupon for Teacher’s Day.

That simple gesture touched me more than I expected.

Sometimes, the things that challenge us the most become the things that quietly reward us.

Today, I received two kinds of gifts:

One from the golf course.
One from the classroom.

A good score.
A grateful heart.

Laughter with old friends.
Recognition from a student.

Nothing dramatic.
Nothing extraordinary.

Just one beautiful day filled with small victories.

And honestly,
those may be the best kind.

KR Summary
