Advice Before the Question - 좋은 조언보다 침묵이 더 낫다

One of the things I’ve learned through golf is this:

Even good advice can become noise
when it arrives before the other person is ready to hear it.

In golf, this happens all the time.

Someone hits a few bad shots,
and immediately another person walks over and says:

“Keep your head down.”
“You’re using too much arm.”
“Slow down your backswing.”

Most of the time, the advice is not wrong.

But timing matters.

Because golf swings are personal.
Each person has a different rhythm,
different body,
different tension,
different experience,
and a different way of feeling the game.

What helps one golfer
may completely confuse another.

I know this because I used to do the same thing.

When I was younger,
if I discovered something helpful,
I wanted to share it immediately.

Not because I wanted to control others,
but because I sincerely thought it could help them.

But over time,
I slowly realized something important.

People rarely change because they are told to.

Most real change happens
when a person becomes ready internally.

And until that moment comes,
too much explanation can actually create pressure.

Golf taught me that silence is sometimes more respectful than instruction.

Now, unless someone genuinely asks,
I try not to give swing advice.

I simply play together.
Watch quietly.
Enjoy the round.

And interestingly,
those rounds often become much more comfortable and meaningful.

I think life works the same way.

Even with good intentions,
constantly explaining our philosophy, values, or way of living
can unintentionally make others feel corrected or judged.

Not everyone starts from the same place.
Not everyone carries the same burdens.
And we never fully know another person’s story.

These days,
I believe wisdom is not about having the right answers for everyone.

It is about knowing
when to speak,
when to wait,
and when to simply let people discover things in their own time.

Sometimes the best guidance
is not advice.

It is presence.

KR Summary
