The Best Score Wasn't on the Scorecard - after my 5-Wood Cover Lost

Some golf days are remembered because of a birdie.

Others because of a personal best.

Today will stay with me for a different reason.

As soon as I arrived at the course, the marshal I had met before was on duty. He smiled, walked over, and handed me a headcover for my 5-wood that he had saved for me.

It was such a small gesture, but it meant a great deal.

I had wanted to prepare a small thank-you gift, but I wasn't sure he would be working that day because the marshals often rotate. So instead, I quietly handed him a small amount of cash and said, "Please enjoy a cup of coffee. Thank you again."

He politely refused at first.

I insisted just as quietly.

Some kindness deserves to be returned, even in a small way.

Then something even funnier happened.

The band leader opened my golf bag and started organizing it himself. I told him, "I can do it," but he simply smiled and continued. Like a patient teacher—or perhaps like a father helping his daughter—he carefully arranged the headcover so it wouldn't fall out again and showed me exactly how to secure it.

I couldn't stop smiling.

Sometimes people show their kindness not through words, but through the little things they do without being asked.

Our group today included a PD and his friend. Everyone played with wonderful manners, and we spent the entire round laughing together. I didn't make a birdie today, but I played solid golf, made several satisfying pars, and enjoyed every hole.

Honestly, I don't think anyone was keeping score as much as we were collecting good memories.

One moment made me laugh.

An older gentleman introduced me to someone else by saying, "She's a pro."

I know he was being generous.

But hearing those words made me smile all the same.

After the round, I went home and enjoyed a delicious lunch of Korean barbecue. Last week was filled with final exam preparations, but this week finally feels a little lighter. It was nice to enjoy both a peaceful afternoon and a peaceful mind.

Today reminded me of something simple.

Golf is often described as a game against yourself.

Maybe that's true.

But sometimes, golf is simply about meeting good people.

A thoughtful marshal.
A caring band leader.
Respectful playing partners.
Friendly faces who remember your name.

The scorecard won't record any of those moments.

Yet those are the memories that stay with us the longest.

Next week, I'll prepare a small gift to thank the band leader properly.

Because kindness, like a good golf swing, has a beautiful rhythm.

It always comes back.

One Swing Philosophy

The best rounds are not always the ones with the lowest scores.
Sometimes, they're the ones that remind us how many kind people are walking beside us.

KR Summary

One Swing Philosophy
