A Happy Day, Even Without Golf -

I didn't play golf today.

And somehow,
I'm still having a very happy day.

Rain was in the forecast today.

Usually, I might have felt a little disappointed.
“Of all days, why does it have to rain today?”

But today was different.

At around 4:30 a.m., I went for my usual walk with Ruby and Rich. The forecast said the rain would start at 6, but less than three minutes into our walk, I felt a few raindrops.

We hadn't had much rain for almost a month, and farmers were already suffering from damage to their crops because of the prolonged dry weather.

So this time, I didn't mind the rain coming early at all.

Normally, I might have complained,

“Oh, come on. Why is it raining already?”

But today, I thought,

“That's okay, rain. You can come early. Pour as much as you want.”

After such a long dry spell, the rain felt like something to be grateful for.

We quickly went to a nearby park so the dogs could do their business, and then we headed home.

But just as we were getting close, the rain suddenly started pouring.

I thought about waiting for a while, but then I remembered something.

Oh, no. I left all the windows open during robot-vacuuming the house this morning!

So I made a quick decision.

“Let's just go home!”

And the three of us—Ruby, Rich, and me—ran home through the pouring rain.

And while I was running, I noticed something else.

Hey, I'm still in pretty good shape! 😂

Maybe it's because I swim regularly, walk a lot, and keep playing golf, but I wasn't even out of breath.

At 60, I sometimes think about getting older.

But today, my body seemed to tell me,

“I'm still here.”

As soon as we got home, I dried the dogs off with towels. Then I took a quick shower myself.

After that, I made myself a delicious breakfast.

And now I'm sitting here in front of my laptop.

It's still raining heavily outside.

And I'm thinking:

I didn't play golf today, but I lived today well.

Something interesting has been happening to me lately.

Since I started taking more photos for my blog, I've started paying much more attention to my everyday life.

When I was young, I loved taking pictures.

But sometime after my 40s, I stopped seeing much meaning in them. My life felt pretty much the same from day to day, so I didn't feel the need to record everything.

If I took too many pictures, I would eventually delete most of them anyway.

But now, things are different.

Because I take pictures, I notice things I never used to notice.

Recently, I noticed something in one of my photos.

My belly was sticking out a little. 😂

At first, I thought,

“Well, I guess that's just what happens as you get older.”

But then I started thinking about how I normally walk and sit.

And I realized something.

I wasn't using my core at all.

I was just standing, sitting, and walking without paying any attention to my posture.

So instead of immediately thinking about adding another workout to my routine, I decided to start with something much simpler.

Fix my posture.

Since yesterday, I've been gently engaging my lower abdomen when I walk or sit.

It's such a small thing.

But it made me realize something much bigger.

Maybe the body I have today is partly the result of how little attention I paid to it over the past ten years.

For a long time, I was simply busy getting through each day.

I was living, working, taking care of things, and moving on to the next day.

I wasn't really stopping to notice myself.

But now, at 60, I'm beginning to notice again.

My body.

My habits.

My thoughts.

My happiness.

Even the rain.

I used to think that after 60, life might become less exciting.

Maybe there wouldn't be as many new things to look forward to.

Maybe the excitement of everyday life would slowly fade.

But something completely different is happening.

My days are becoming more meaningful.

I pay more attention to the little things.

A few drops of rain.

A sudden downpour.

Running home with my dogs.

Realizing that I'm not out of breath.

Noticing my posture in a photograph.

Learning a new English expression.

Having a good conversation.

Writing down something I felt that day.

And somehow, one small experience doesn't end when the moment is over.

I experience it once.

Then I see the photo.

I think about it again.

I write about it.

I read what I wrote later.

And I feel the happiness all over again.

Maybe that's another kind of compound interest.

Not money.

Not investments.

But happiness, awareness, and meaning.

One small moment becomes another small moment.

And over time, they begin to add up.

Of course, there are days when golf makes me happy.

There are days when a good round makes me happy.

There are days when good people, good shots, and beautiful courses make my day.

But today reminded me of something important.

I don't need golf to have a good day.

I don't need perfect weather.

I don't need a special event.

I don't even need everything to go according to plan.

Today, I ran through the rain with my two dogs.

I felt my strong legs.

I realized my lungs were doing pretty well.

I took care of Ruby and Rich.

I took a warm shower.

I ate a delicious breakfast.

And now I'm sitting here, writing about my day.

That's enough.

Actually, it's more than enough.

It's a very good day.

I didn't play golf today.

But today is still a happy day.

And maybe this is one of the best things about getting older:

I no longer need a perfect day to feel that I had a good one.

I just need to notice it. ❤️

KR Version

After such a long dry spell, the rain felt like something to be grateful for.

And maybe this is one of the best things about getting older—

I no longer need a perfect day to feel that I had a good one.

7:13 a.m. — A rainy morning, my laptop, and a quiet moment to write. Just another little moment in my day.
