I Didn’t Expect to Learn This at a Golf Tournament - KLPGA에서의 관람에서 기대하지 않았던 배움
2026 Jeju Samdasoo Masters — A Day at Teddy Valley
Yesterday, I went to the 2026 Jeju Samdasoo Masters at Teddy Valley Golf & Resort.
I knew I was going to watch professional golfers.
I just didn't know I was going to learn so much.
Fortunately, the weather was much kinder than I expected.
Because of the typhoon's influence, the sky was mostly cloudy, and there was a gentle breeze. It was still over 30°C around midday, but the conditions were actually quite comfortable in the morning.
And Samdasoo was everywhere.
Free ice-cold bottled water was available, so I happily kept drinking it throughout the morning. 😂
My friends from my golf group had also told me about a roulette event before entering the course.
I gave it a try…
And I won a blue Samdasoo umbrella! ☂️
Not bad at all.
But the funniest part of the day happened before we even reached the course.
I parked my car, and literally about a minute later, our golf group's leader parked right in front of me.
We hadn't made any plans to meet.
We just happened to arrive almost at exactly the same time.
So we started walking toward the course together, laughing about the coincidence.
Then suddenly—
Beep! Beep!
A car was honking at us.
It was the PD and his wife, who were also looking for a parking spot. 😂
When they saw the two of us walking together, they asked,
"Did you two come together in one car?"
We burst out laughing.
"No! We didn't even make plans. We just happened to park at almost the same time!"
Maybe some friendships really do have their own timing.
But the real gift of the day was watching the KLPGA players up close.
I followed Yoo Hyun-joo's group for much of the morning, and watching professional swings from just a few meters away was completely different from watching golf on television.
Especially the backswing.
I've been working on making my own backswing simpler and more compact lately, so watching these players in person gave me a completely different perspective.
You can watch hundreds of golf videos.
You can take lessons.
You can read about swing mechanics.
But sometimes, seeing a great swing with your own eyes is a lesson in itself.
The movement is so simple.
So balanced.
And somehow, so effortless.
That was probably the most valuable golf lesson I received yesterday.
I didn't take a lesson.
I just watched.
And I learned.
Teddy Valley itself was another highlight.
The palm trees, the mountains, the water, the fairways, and the Jeju landscape made the course look almost unreal.
It reminded me again why I love playing and watching golf in Jeju.
Golf is never just about the score.
Sometimes it's about seeing something beautiful, learning something new, and spending a few hours with good people.
By late morning, though, the temperature was climbing above 30°C.
So we decided to leave before the hottest part of the day.
And when I got home…
I was completely exhausted. 😂
Apparently, watching golf for several hours in the Jeju summer heat is also a workout.
But it was absolutely worth it.
Yesterday, I went to watch professional golf.
I came home with a new umbrella, a funny story about an unexpected reunion in the parking lot, beautiful memories of Teddy Valley…
and one more thing:
a better understanding of the swing I'm still trying to build.
Maybe that's one of the reasons I love golf.
There is always something new to learn.
🇰🇷 KR Summary
Sometimes, watching is learning.
무더위 때문에 집에 돌아와서는 완전히 기진맥진했지만, 정말 즐거운 하루였다.
오늘 오전 9시부터 최종라운드가 시작된다.
Yesterday, I watched golf.
Today, I might watch it a little differently. 🏌️♀️
