I Was Wrong About Her - 나는 그녀를 잘못 판단했다

Yesterday at the driving range, one of my golf friends quietly said something that touched my heart.

"Angie, I've been too sensitive. I realize I didn't need to behave that way. I'm really sorry."

She is seven years younger than I am.

She has been playing golf for just over three years, but no one works harder than she does. Her swing has become beautiful through countless hours of practice.

But the golf course is different from the driving range.

When her hard work didn't produce the results she expected, frustration often took over. She isn't the kind of person who hides her feelings, so her disappointment sometimes came out in her words and attitude.

To be honest, there were moments when I thought,

"Maybe one day we won't be playing golf together anymore."

Six months ago, I was almost certain of it.

Ten years ago, I probably would have ended the friendship.

Back then, I judged people quickly.

I made decisions quickly, too.

But this time, I chose a different path.

I didn't argue with her.

I didn't try to change her.

I simply stayed true to myself.

When necessary, I explained who I was honestly, and then I gave both of us something we often forget to give each other.

Time.

Time for her to understand me.

Time for me to see her strengths more clearly.

Yesterday, without anyone asking her to, she came to me and said she was sorry.

That took courage.

I smiled and replied,

"You practiced so hard, but the golf course didn't always reward your effort. That must have been frustrating. You're playing even better than I am now. It's okay. We all go through seasons like that."

The tension disappeared from her face.

And somehow, it disappeared from mine, too.

At that moment, I realized something important.

The biggest change wasn't hers.

It was mine.

These days, I don't rush to judge people.

I give them time.

Not every friendship becomes stronger.

But sometimes, people simply need time to grow.

Then another thought came to me.

Maybe I wasn't wrong about her after all.

I had seen her kindness from the beginning.

It was always there.

It just needed time to shine through.

The fact that she reflected on her own behavior and apologized without being asked told me more about her character than any perfect round of golf ever could.

Perhaps we both changed.

Or perhaps we simply gave each other enough time to become the people we were always capable of being.

Today, I'm grateful.

Not because I found a perfect friend.

But because I almost lost a good one by judging too quickly.

The good people in my life weren't new. I had simply become calm enough to recognize how precious they had always been.

Today's Verdict

Good people are not perfect people. They are people with the courage to admit their mistakes. And lasting friendships are often built, not by changing each other, but by giving each other enough time to grow.

KR Version

Today's Verdict
