What Made Me Smile Twice? -

This early morning, as usual, I was getting ready to take my two dogs, Rich and Ruby, for a walk.

But when I opened my front door, I suddenly froze.

There was a dark pile lying right in front of the entrance.

I was scared to look at it closely. Honestly, I thought it might be a dead cat because it was about the same size.

I didn't pick it up.

Instead, my mind was already getting busy and stressed, imagining how I was going to deal with a dead animal first thing in the morning.

Then I turned on the light.

And guess what?

It wasn't a dead cat.

It was my golf wear! 😂

After yesterday's round, I had hung all my golf clothes on the laundry line in the side garden. I must have been too tired to remember to bring them inside because I still had to teach until 9 PM.

Apparently, one piece of clothing had fallen from the laundry line.

And Rich had found it.

He must have carried it all the way to my front door and stayed with it through the night.

But the most surprising part?

Rich didn't bite it. Not even a little.

He simply kept it safe for me.

I was genuinely touched.

I had thought I was looking at a dead cat.

Instead, I found out that my smart and loyal Rich had been guarding my golf clothes all night.

What a surprise! 🥹

And suddenly, I remembered yesterday's golf round.

There were actually so many little moments that made me smile.

The first nine holes weren't particularly kind to me.

My driver wasn't finding the center of the clubface very often, and I was getting a little frustrated.

Then one of my playing partners quietly came over and said,

"Do you know what the caddie said about you?"

Apparently, while watching me play, the caddie had said,

"She's a really good golfer."

That one little sentence made me feel surprisingly good.

I hadn't asked for a compliment.

I wasn't even playing my best golf.

But hearing that someone who was watching my game from the outside thought I was a good golfer somehow changed my mood.

And strangely enough, my driver started behaving much better on the back nine. 😂

Maybe my swing didn't change.

Maybe my mind did.

There was another funny moment.

We had a new member of our golf band playing with us for the first time. Later, he posted a group photo in our band chat and wrote:

"Angie unni played from the white tees from beginning to end with three men. That's amazing."

Haha.

I hadn't thought much about it while playing, but seeing someone else notice it made me smile.

And then there was our PD.

He is actually bigger and physically stronger than me, but with only three holes left, he suddenly started complaining,

"I'm completely out of energy. I can't concentrate on golf anymore."

I listened for a while.

Then I finally shouted,

"Look at me! I'm smaller than you and weigh less than you, and I haven't complained once!  If you're already dying, I'm going to be dead soon, too! 😂”

Then I added,

"Just play golf quietly! Oh, come on! What kind of big man says he's dying every five minutes?"

Everyone burst out laughing.

A little later, PD quietly told me something.

When we went to watch the Samdasoo Masters, his wife had apparently said,

"Angie is so energetic... and cute."

I laughed and said,

"Why would you apologize for saying that? That's a compliment! Please tell your wife I think she's beautiful, too. She still has such a girlish charm. Make sure you tell her that!"

And that was the kind of golf we played yesterday.

Lots of teasing.

Lots of laughing.

And lots of completely unnecessary conversations. 😂

At the beginning of the round, PD had been saying that Greenfield was too difficult, it was too hot, it might rain, and maybe we should have canceled.

I had agreed with him, of course.

But after the round, he suddenly said,

"That was really fun. I want to come back."

So I immediately said,

"Then just buy a membership. 😂"

Right in front of the caddie.

He laughed and said,

"Well, I only have money. Should I?"

That's how our round went.

And somehow, PD finished with a fantastic 86 — 41 on the front nine and 45 on the back nine.

Considering that he usually shoots in the 90s or higher, he had a really good day.

But I think the score was only one small part of what made the day enjoyable.

Yesterday reminded me of something.

I often think that I'm the one who makes other people laugh and enjoy themselves.

But maybe it's not one-way at all.

The caddie's compliment.

The new member's kind words.

PD's wife's sweet comment.

The laughter we shared on the course.

These little things were all coming back to me.

Maybe when you sincerely give good energy to the people around you, it quietly comes back to you in unexpected ways.

And that's what I love about writing these days.

Some of these little moments could easily disappear from my memory.

But when I sit down and write about them, I get to live them one more time.

I smile again.

I feel grateful again.

And sometimes, I understand my own life a little more clearly.

This morning, my tiring walk suddenly became a happy one.

I was walking with my smart, royal dog Rich and my cute Ruby, thinking about yesterday's laughter.

And I realized once again that happiness doesn't always arrive as something big.

Sometimes, it is a compliment from a caddie.

Sometimes, it is a friend making everyone laugh.

Sometimes, it is a new person saying something unexpectedly kind.

And sometimes...

It is your dog quietly carrying your fallen golf clothes to the front door and protecting them all night.

These are the small, happy things in my life.

And perhaps the happiest part is knowing that I still have so many of them waiting for me.

At 60, life isn't getting smaller.

If anything, I'm becoming better at noticing how full it already is.

KR Version
