Why I Still Go to the Driving Range -
Last Monday, my golf round wasn't as enjoyable as I had hoped.
I hadn't been to the driving range for a while, and it showed. My swing felt out of rhythm, especially on the front nine. That round reminded me of something simple.
Good golf doesn't happen by accident.
So this morning, after walking my dogs and having a quick breakfast, I headed straight to the driving range.
The difference surprised me.
After warming up, I watched a YouTube lesson that explained a swing point I had almost forgotten. I placed my phone beside me and practiced slowly, one shot at a time.
Little by little, my rhythm came back.
The impact felt cleaner.
The ball flew more solidly.
More importantly, my body remembered what my mind had forgotten.
These days, I no longer think of golf as simply hitting a ball.
I think of it as taking care of the movements that have taken years to build.
That is why I decided to return to the driving range at least two or three times a week—not to chase perfection, but to maintain the swing that has become part of me.
While I was practicing, a younger golf friend greeted me with a big smile.
We chatted for a while.
I jokingly asked,
"Your driver has been amazing lately. You must want to play golf every day!"
She smiled and said,
"No. What I really admire is how accurately you hit your second shots onto the green."
We both laughed.
It reminded me that we often notice strengths in others that they don't even realize they have.
Another friend said something that made me smile even more.
"My husband and I often talk about you. We're always impressed by how well you take care of your health."
I laughed and answered,
"Of course, I have little aches and pains like everyone else. I'm just grateful that nothing serious has stopped me yet."
At that moment, I realized something.
People may not always say it, but they quietly notice the way we live.
Our habits.
Our attitude.
Our consistency.
On my way home, I had planned to go swimming as well.
But my right shoulder felt a little tired.
So I simply changed my plan.
Swimming could wait until tomorrow.
Years ago, I might have pushed myself anyway.
Now I know that listening to my body is sometimes the healthiest decision.
After all, exercise is a tool for living well.
It should never become the goal itself.
Golf will probably never be a perfect game.
And maybe that's exactly why I still love it.
There is always something to improve, someone to encourage, and another lesson waiting for me at the driving range.
I may not be getting younger, but I am definitely getting wiser—in golf and in life. ⛳
KR Version
