Maybe Life Really Is About How I Choose to See It

A week ago, we had very strong winds, almost like a typhoon.

So today, I finally decided to go to my field and check my Hwangchil trees.

I wanted to see if any trees had fallen and how much the weeds had grown.

I got into my car and started driving.

Today, I wasn't planning to work very hard.

I stopped at a cafรฉ on the way and got an iced cafรฉ latte and a sweet pastry.

I thought I would just have a light and easy day at the field.

Then, about 20 minutes into the drive, I suddenly realized something.

Oops. I forgot my work boots! ๐Ÿ˜‚

I looked down at my feet.

I was wearing summer slippers.

I thought about turning the car around and going home.

Then I remembered something.

I had a pair of golf shoes in my trunk!

Problem solved.

Today, I was going to work in my golf shoes. ๐Ÿ˜‚

My Car Became a Karaoke Room

The drive to my field takes almost an hour, and I know the road very well.

Sometimes, even a beautiful road can feel boring when you drive it too often.

So I turned up the music.

A dance song came on.

At first, I just moved my shoulders a little.

Then my head.

Then my hips.

Soon, even my fingers were moving to the beat.

My car had become my private dance club. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Then a quieter song came on.

So I started singing.

Loudly.

Very loudly.

Apparently, being 60 hasn't changed my habit of singing in the car like I'm still in my 20s. ๐Ÿ˜‚

The stress disappeared.

The autumn weather was beautiful, and the mountain road was quiet with very little traffic.

Suddenly, my boring drive wasn't boring anymore.

I had my own free karaoke room and dance club.

A Little Work in My Golf Shoes

When I arrived at the field, I found two fallen trees.

One had completely broken off.

Another one was partly cut and lying on the ground.

I stood one of them back up and used some big stones to support it.

I don't know if it will survive.

Maybe it needs some rain.

But I did what I could.

I moved the completely broken tree to the side and spent about 30 minutes clearing weeds and bushes.

That was enough work for today.

Then I looked at the beautiful autumn weather and thought,

“Why go straight home?”

My field is right next to the coastal road.

So I decided to take the coastal road and stop at one of my favorite little pavilions by the sea.

My Free Yacht

When I arrived, the wind was cool and gentle.

It was one of those perfect autumn days.

I had worked for about 30 minutes and was a little sweaty, so I lay down in the pavilion, turned on some music, and started stretching.

Luckily, nobody was there.

I was completely free to move around however I wanted.

I stretched my arms and legs, turned this way and that, and simply enjoyed doing nothing.

Then I closed my eyes.

The blue ocean was right beside me.

The breeze was gently blowing across my face.

And suddenly, I felt like I was lying on a yacht floating on the sea.

A luxury yacht. ๐Ÿ˜‚

But I didn't need a real yacht.

My imagination was enough.

I stayed there for almost 30 minutes, listening to music, drinking cold water I had brought from home, and enjoying my little imaginary yacht trip.

And then something else happened.

While lying there, looking at the sea with my eyes closed, I suddenly thought:

“Maybe life really is about how I choose to see it.”

The thought felt very clear.

The Same Day Can Feel Completely Different

If I had focused on forgetting my boots,
I could have started the day feeling annoyed.

Instead, I found my golf shoes.

If I had thought the long drive was boring,
it would have been a boring drive.

Instead, I turned my car into a karaoke room and dance club.

The fallen trees could have made me feel upset.

But I simply did what I could and helped one of them stand again.

And the little pavilion by the sea?

It was just a pavilion.

But lying there with the ocean breeze, my imagination turned it into a luxury yacht.

Nothing around me had really changed.

I had changed the way I was experiencing it.

And that made all the difference.

Luxury Life for ₩0

When I finally went home, I watered the vegetables in my little garden.

And I thought about my day.

I had a private karaoke room. ๐ŸŽค
A private dance club. ๐Ÿ’ƒ
A beautiful autumn road trip. ๐Ÿš—
My own little field. ๐ŸŒฟ
An ocean-view resort. ๐ŸŒŠ
And even a luxury yacht. ⛵

And it all cost me ₩0. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Maybe luxury isn't always about expensive things.

Maybe luxury is having the freedom, curiosity, and imagination to enjoy an ordinary day.

I don't need to buy a luxury life.
I know how to turn an ordinary life into one.

At 60, I think I'm finally learning something important:

Life doesn't always have to change first.
Sometimes, I just need to change the way I look at it.

Today, I didn't go on a fancy trip.

I didn't ride a real yacht.

I didn't even work very hard.

But somehow, I traveled everywhere.

A karaoke room.
A dance club.
A field.
The ocean.
A luxury yacht.

All in one ordinary day.

And maybe that is my kind of luxury life.

Ordinary life + curiosity + imagination + freedom = Luxury.

I came home, watered my vegetables, looked at my day, and smiled.

Well… that was a pretty good day. ๐Ÿ˜Š

I think I'll do it again tomorrow. ๐Ÿ˜†
