Same Points Game, Very Different Money Game

Both the PGA TOUR and LPGA TOUR have a season-long points race.

The PGA TOUR has the FedExCup.

The LPGA TOUR has the Race to CME Globe.

At first, I thought they were basically the same system.

But after looking more closely, I realized that the biggest difference is what those points actually lead to.

PGA TOUR: Points Can Turn Into Big Money

On the PGA TOUR, players earn FedExCup points throughout the season.

Then the Playoffs begin:

FedEx St. Jude Championship

Top 50
↓
BMW Championship

Top 30
↓
TOUR Championship

But there is another important part.

The FedExCup standings also determine a separate pool of FedExCup Bonus Money.

In 2026, the FedExCup No. 1 receives $22 million in cash plus $1 million deferred, for a total of $23 million in FedExCup bonus money.

And that's not the end of the money story.

The TOUR Championship has its own $40 million purse, with $10 million going to the winner.

So on the PGA TOUR, the points race is not simply about qualifying for the final event.

The season-long performance itself can be worth an enormous amount of money.

LPGA TOUR: Points Are Mainly the Ticket to CME

The LPGA also has a season-long points race.

Players earn Race to CME Globe points throughout the season.

But the role of those points is different.

The top 60 players, plus ties, qualify for the CME Group Tour Championship.

In other words:

Race to CME Globe points are primarily used to determine who gets into the final event.

Unlike the PGA's FedExCup, there isn't a comparable system where the season-ending points ranking itself produces a huge separate bonus pool.

The qualified players then compete in the CME Group Tour Championship.

And the winner becomes both:

CME Group Tour Championship Champion

and

Race to CME Globe Champion.

The 2026 Numbers Make the Difference Clear

When you put the numbers side by side, the difference is pretty amazing.

The LPGA's $4 million winner's check is enormous by women's golf standards.

But compared with the PGA TOUR, the difference is not simply about the size of the final-event purse.

The entire reward structure is different.

At first, I simply thought,

“The LPGA prize money is much smaller than the PGA's.”

But after looking into the systems, I realized that it's more than just a difference in prize money.

The points themselves have different purposes.

On the PGA TOUR,

points can lead to money.

On the LPGA TOUR,

points mainly lead to CME.

Same idea.

Very different money game. 😂⛳

같은 포인트 경쟁, 하지만 돈이 가는 방식은 완전히 다르다

PGA TOUR와 LPGA TOUR 모두 시즌 내내 포인트를 쌓는다.

PGA에는 FedExCup,
LPGA에는 Race to CME Globe가 있다.

처음에는 나도 비슷한 시스템이라고 생각했다.

하지만 자세히 들여다보니 가장 큰 차이는 포인트가 결국 무엇으로 연결되는가에 있었다.

PGA: 포인트가 순위가 되고, 순위가 엄청난 보너스가 된다

2026년 PGA TOUR의 FedExCup은 시즌 내내 포인트를 쌓은 뒤 플레이오프를 거친다.

→ FedEx St. Jude Championship

Top 50
→ BMW Championship

Top 30
→ TOUR Championship

그런데 PGA는 여기서 끝이 아니다.

BMW Championship이 끝난 뒤의 FedExCup 순위에 따라 별도의 FedExCup Bonus Money가 지급된다.

2026년 기준 1위 선수는
현금 $22 million + deferred $1 million,
즉 총 $23 million 규모의 보너스를 받는다.

그리고 TOUR Championship의 상금은 또 별개다.

TOUR Championship은 총상금 $40 million,
우승상금은 $10 million이다.

즉 PGA에서는 시즌 내내 쌓은 포인트가 단순히 최종전 출전 자격만 결정하는 것이 아니다.

시즌 성적 자체가 거대한 보너스로 연결된다.

LPGA: 포인트는 CME 최종전으로 가는 티켓

LPGA의 Race to CME Globe도 시즌 내내 계속 포인트를 쌓는다.

하지만 여기서 가장 중요한 역할은 다르다.

Race to CME Globe Points List 상위 60명 + 동률

이 선수들이 시즌 최종전인 CME Group Tour Championship에 진출한다.

즉 간단히 말하면,

LPGA의 CME 포인트는 최종전 출전자를 결정하는 시즌 레이스다.

PGA처럼 시즌 포인트 순위에 따라
1위에게 수천만 달러의 별도 보너스를 지급하는 구조와는 다르다.

Top 60에 들어간 선수들은 CME Group Tour Championship에서 다시 72홀 경쟁을 펼친다.

그리고 최종전 우승자가

CME Group Tour Championship Champion이자
Race to CME Globe Champion

이 된다.

2026년, 숫자로 비교하면 더 놀랍다

LPGA의 $4 million 우승상금은 여자 골프 역사상 가장 큰 우승상금 중 하나이며, 결코 작은 돈이 아니다.

최종전에서도 또 큰돈.

LPGA는

처음에는 단순히
“LPGA 상금이 PGA보다 작구나.”
라고만 생각했다.

그런데 알고 보니 단순히 우승상금의 차이만이 아니었다.

시즌 포인트에 돈을 연결하는 방식 자체가 다르다.

PGA의 FedExCup은
시즌 성적이 곧 거대한 보너스 경쟁으로 이어지고,

LPGA의 Race to CME Globe는
시즌 성적으로 마지막 무대에 설 선수를 가리는 경쟁에 더 가깝다.

같은 ‘시즌 포인트 레이스’이지만,

PGA는 포인트가 돈으로 이어지고,
LPGA는 포인트가 CME로 가는 티켓이 된다.

이 차이를 알고 나니

⛳️골프는 역시 나의 힐링 | Back on the Golf Range Again

두 달 만에 다시 시작한 나의 골프 이야기 After two months away from golf, I finally went back to the driving range today. 손가락 부상 때문에 골프채를 전혀 잡지 못했던 시간. 생각보다 길었고, 생각보다 더 아쉬웠어요. “Time flies, but I couldn’t play golf at all.” (시간은 잘 가는데, 골프를 전혀 못 쳤다니…) 연습장 앞을 지날 때마다 마음속으로 같은 말만 반복했어요. “I miss golf so much.” (골프가 너무 그립다) 그리고 오늘, 드디어 다시 시작. 문을 열고 들어서는 순간 타구 소리, 공 날아가는 풍경, 익숙한 매트 감촉까지 모든 게 그대로인데 왜 이렇게 반가운지. “It feels like home.” (마치 집에 돌아온 기분이다) 사실 조금 걱정도 됐어요. “What if I lost my swing?” (스윙 감 다 잃어버린 거 아니야?) “What if everything feels different?” (예전 같지 않으면 어떡하지?) 첫 스윙. 어색. 두 번째. 긴장. 세 번째 — 딱! 공이 시원하게 날아가는데 저도 모르게 웃음이 터졌어요. “Yes!
