The Day I Found My Face Again -

It took more than five years.

Maybe it was because of one wrong decision I made in my life. For almost ten years, I went through a difficult period that I never expected to experience.

At some point, I stopped liking photographs of myself.

This was strange because I had always loved taking pictures. Whenever I went somewhere with friends, on a picnic, or to a gathering, I was usually the one carrying a camera. I loved capturing people's expressions and the little moments of a day.

But one day, I simply stopped taking pictures.

I didn't like my face in photographs anymore.

At first, I thought it was because I was getting older.

“Is this what happens when we grow older? Does our face really become less attractive?”

It made me a little sad.

I have always been a person who smiles a lot. But somewhere along the way, I noticed that I was frowning more often. Without even realizing it, I became uncomfortable whenever someone wanted to take my picture.

Then yesterday, while playing golf, I took quite a few photographs for my blog.

When I looked at them later, I was surprised.

“Wait…”

I had already noticed that my face seemed a little more relaxed lately. But seeing several photographs together made me realize something clearly.

My smile was coming back.

For a long time, I thought that as we grow older, our faces naturally become less beautiful.

But then I remembered my grandmother.

When she was over eighty, we took a picture together in the yard of our home. I looked so much like her because she and my mother looked very much alike.

When I was young, I often thought,

“When I grow old, I want to become a kind, warm, and cute grandmother like her.”

And now, I have started noticing my grandmother's gentle smile appearing on my own face.

People often say that after we turn forty, our life begins to show on our faces.

I think there is some truth to that.

Without meaning to, the difficult ten years of my life had left their traces on my face.

Perhaps a difficult life leaves something behind in our expressions.

But I also believe the opposite is true.

A peaceful life can leave its traces on our faces, too.

And then I realized something else.

The person who helped bring my smile back wasn't just me.

On the golf course, there are people who laugh with me and shout,

“Nice shot!”

when I hit a good shot.

At home, Ruby and Rich are always there, loving me exactly as I am.

And when I take my two dogs out for an early morning walk, even in that dim hour before sunrise, some of my neighbors recognize me and warmly say hello.

Some older neighbors even stop to tell my dogs,

“Oh, how pretty!”

When I think about all these little moments, I realize something.

I have quietly been loved by so many people.

I used to think that only big, extraordinary expressions of love counted as love.

But I was wrong.

A cheerful “Nice shot!” on the golf course.

A warm greeting from a neighbor in the early morning.

A kind smile toward my dogs.

Two little dogs waiting for me at home with unconditional love.

These small, ordinary moments have been quietly adding up.

And perhaps they have been helping me smile again.

Since I started writing, I have also become happier about very small things.

I wonder what will make me smile today.

I wonder what little discovery tomorrow will bring.

I have become curious about ordinary days again.

Golf.

Writing.

Taking photographs.

Finding little moments of happiness.

Little by little, I have become more comfortable with myself.

And somehow, that comfort has begun to appear on my face.

Looking at my photographs yesterday, I finally understood.

It wasn't that I had become beautiful again.

I had found myself again.

The relaxed face I had lost for a while.

The face that smiles easily.

The face that is curious about small things.

The face of a woman who still finds life interesting and fun.

Maybe I never really lost that face.

Perhaps I simply buried it under a difficult chapter of my life.

And now, I am slowly bringing it back.

With my grandmother's gentle smile.

With the warmth of people who love me.

With Ruby and Rich beside me.

And with a heart full of curiosity about the little joys I may discover tomorrow.

Today is the day I found my face again.

And what a beautiful thing it is to realize that I have been loved all along.

I am truly grateful.

KR Version

“Nice shot!”

“Hey, did you finally find me?” 😜

“Yes. It took me long enough… but I finally did.” ❤️

A teenage me posing confidently outdoors, already showing the playful, adventurous side of my personality. I clearly loved being in front of the camera!

Photo 2 — Always the One to Step Forward
Even as a teenager, I loved stepping forward and being part of the action. Looking back, I can see the same outgoing and playful spirit that is still a part of me today.

My teenage self, happily posing on a tree by the water. Apparently, climbing a tree just to take a photograph seemed perfectly natural to me back then!
