Tiger Said “One.” And I Stopped Complaining.
The more I play golf, the more I realize that golf is a lot like life.
To lower my score, I need two things:
Confidence and consistency.
Confidence comes from practice and experience.
Consistency comes from knowing my own strength and staying steady.
But even when I have both, every shot is still different.
Before each shot, I think about many things.
How is my body feeling today?
Where is the fairway?
Where is the green?
What is the distance?
What is the lie?
What kind of trouble is around the hole?
Then I have to choose a club.
My caddie gives me good advice, and I listen carefully.
But in the end,
the decision is mine.
And then I take the shot.
Sometimes it is a beautiful shot.
Sometimes...
Oh, no. 😂
I know exactly what I want to do before I swing.
Relax my shoulders.
Take a full backswing.
Loosen my grip.
Stay relaxed.
But golf is such a strange game.
A tiny change in my thought, perhaps for just 0.0001 seconds, or a very small movement in my body can make everything slightly out of sync.
And suddenly, I hit a terrible shot.
Of course, I want good results.
But I also know that I cannot expect every shot to be a satisfying one.
Recently, I watched a YouTube video of Tiger Woods.
Someone asked him a question:
If you play 18 holes and hit about 14 drivers, how many of those drives are truly satisfying?
Tiger answered immediately:
“One.”
One.
Wow.
That answer hit me hard.
If Tiger Woods is satisfied with only one truly good driver shot out of fourteen, then what am I complaining about? 😂
Actually, I have always been more interested in the process than the result.
But hearing Tiger's answer made me understand golf in a different way.
Maybe golf is supposed to be this crazy.
You can practice.
You can prepare.
You can choose the right club.
You can think carefully.
You can do everything you know.
And still, you don't know exactly what will happen until you hit the ball.
That's golf.
And that is life, too.
We prepare.
We make our choices.
We do our best.
But the final result is never completely in our hands.
Sometimes we get a wonderful result.
Sometimes we don't.
Sometimes something unexpected happens.
And when it does, there is not much we can do except accept it and move on.
The most important thing is not to keep complaining about the last shot.
The shot is over.
The next shot is waiting.
Maybe that is why I have become a little more humble about my golf.
I still want to hit good shots.
Of course I do.
But I don't need every shot to be perfect.
I just want to make the best decision I can with the body, mind, information, and situation I have that day.
Then I take the shot.
I accept the result.
And I walk to the next one.
Maybe golf is not about controlling the result.
Maybe it is about learning how to make your own choice—and accept what comes next.
Just like life. ⛳
KR Version
Consistency.
(Confidence),
(Consistency).
The shot is over.
The next shot is waiting.
