What Makes a Person Truly Impressive? -

This morning, I suddenly asked myself a question:

“What kind of person do I truly admire?”

The answer came to me surprisingly quickly.

I admire people who live their lives sincerely and wholeheartedly.

But when I thought about it more, I realized there are three qualities I value most:

Consistency.
Personal responsibility.
Social responsibility.

I admire people who don't just work hard for a short time, but keep going.

People who take responsibility for their own choices instead of always blaming someone else.

And people who don't live only for themselves, but also care about the people and society around them.

Those are the people I find truly impressive.

Recently, I realized that I had come to admire someone I have known for quite some time.

We have played golf together for more than a year.

So, of course, it wasn't something I decided after seeing him for a few minutes. 😊

Over that time, I had the chance to see how he approaches golf, how he treats other people, how he handles his responsibilities, and how consistently he carries himself.

And somewhere along the way, I found myself thinking:

“Wow. This is a truly impressive person.”

I think genuine admiration takes time.

You don't really know someone from one conversation or one moment.

You learn about people by watching what they do over time.

Words can tell us a lot.

But consistency tells us much more.

When someone's character, responsibility, and passion remain visible over time, I think that is when genuine respect begins.

Recently, I have also become interested in a singer for a similar reason.

It isn't simply because he sings well.

His life has had its ups and downs, but I can see personal responsibility, effort, intelligence, and determination in the way he has lived.

He also worked hard studying dentistry in Australia.

And now, he is putting that same focus and energy into something he truly wants to do—music.

When he sings, each song somehow reaches my heart.

Maybe it isn't only about his singing ability.

Perhaps the experiences he has lived through, the effort he has made, and the passion he has for what he is doing are all somehow reflected in his voice.

People are fascinating that way.

When someone becomes deeply immersed in something they truly care about, that passion can eventually be felt by other people too.

Looking back, I think I have admired passionate people since I was young.

I always wanted to learn because I felt there was still so much about the world that I didn't know.

And whenever I saw someone who was passionate and good at what they did, I thought:

“That person is amazing.
I want to become someone like that, too.”

So I worked hard.

I studied.
I worked.
I learned new things.

And whenever I found something I truly liked, I immersed myself in it.

Even now, I'm still the same.

When I enjoy golf, I want to learn more about golf.

When I become interested in English, I want to explore it further.

When I discover something new, I immediately want to know more.

And these days, writing has become another thing I genuinely enjoy.

Maybe that is why I am still learning.

As I get older, my definition of a truly impressive person has become much simpler.

It isn't about how famous someone is.

It isn't about how much money they have.

It isn't even about being perfect.

What matters to me is this:

How sincerely does this person live their own life?

Do they take responsibility for themselves?

Do they stay committed when things become difficult?

Do they keep growing?

And do they have a sense of responsibility toward the people and society around them?

A person doesn't have to be perfect to be impressive.

They can struggle.
They can fail.
They can have ups and downs.

But if they keep getting back up and continue doing their best, I find that incredibly admirable.

People who are truly immersed in what they do have a special kind of charm.

Maybe that is the kind of person I have always admired.

And perhaps, without realizing it, that is also the kind of person I have always wanted to become.

So I want to keep learning.

Keep growing.

Keep trying.

And keep living with passion.

Because life is only one time.

It is simply too precious to live it half-heartedly. 😊

🌿 Today's Verdict

At 60, I think I finally understand something about myself.

I've made mistakes along the way.
There were times when I made an easier choice, thinking it might make life simpler.

Sometimes, those choices even produced good results.

But strangely, I wasn't happy.

Back then, I couldn't quite explain why.

Now I understand.

A good result cannot make me truly happy if I don't feel good about the way I got there.

For me, the process matters.

I want to make my own choices, even when they are difficult.
I want to work hard for what I want.
And most importantly, I want to take responsibility for the choices I make.

Maybe that's why I admire people who live with consistency, responsibility, and passion.

They don't always choose the easiest path.

They choose the path they can respect when they look back.

And now, at 60, I know this about myself:

I don't need a perfect life.
I don't need an easy life.

I just need a life that feels right to me.

A life where I can say,

“I chose this.
I worked for this.
I took responsibility for this.
And I can live with the process.”

Because now I know what truly makes me happy.

Only the right process makes me happy for the rest of my life.

That's me. 🌿

And honestly…

that's a pretty good life. 😊

The textbook’s answer is everywhere.

But the answer to your own life is something you have to discover by living it yourself.

🌿 KR Version

Only the right process makes me happy for the rest of my life.
