2026 BMW Ladies Championship in Korea — My Favorite Golfers and One Little Disappointment

This week, there is an LPGA tournament I have been looking forward to.

It is the 2026 BMW Ladies Championship, held in Korea.

I always enjoy watching world-class golfers compete, but there is something special about being able to watch them play in Korea. This year, players from the KLPGA Tour will also join the field, making the competition even more interesting.

Sei Young Kim — Defending Her Title

The first player who catches my attention is Sei Young Kim.

She won last year’s tournament wire to wire, leading from the first round to the final round. It was a wonderful victory on home soil.

This year, she returns as the defending champion and will try to win the title for the second consecutive year.

Can she do it again?

I wonder how it feels to return to a tournament where you have already experienced such a special victory. Perhaps those good memories will give her extra confidence.

Hyo Joo Kim and A Lim Kim — Two Players I Want to Watch

I am especially looking forward to watching Hyo Joo Kim and A Lim Kim.

Hyo Joo’s golf is precise and beautifully balanced. I like the way she maintains her rhythm and plays with patience rather than rushing her shots.

A Lim Kim offers a different kind of excitement. Her aggressive approach and powerful shots make her fun to watch. She reminds me that golf can be both a game of precision and a game of courage.

One thing I love about golf is that every player has a different swing and a different way of managing the course.

Even when they play the same hole, they may make completely different decisions, leading to completely different results.

These days, I am rediscovering my own swing at the driving range. I pay much more attention to how my body moves and try to understand why a particular shot works or doesn't work.

That has changed the way I watch professional golf, too.

I no longer look only at where the ball goes. I also pay attention to each player's rhythm, shot selection, and decisions under pressure.

I am sure I will find plenty to enjoy in this tournament.

Jin Young Ko — Can She Find Her Best Game Again?

Jin Young Ko is another player I will be watching closely.

For years, she was one of the leading players in women's golf. Her precise iron shots, excellent course management, and consistent performances made her one of the most impressive golfers in the world.

However, she has struggled to produce the same results recently, which is disappointing to see.

Perhaps that is why I am especially curious about her performance this week.

When a player has reached the top of the world, it is natural for fans to hope that she will return to that level. But even the greatest players cannot maintain their best form forever. Golf is a difficult game, and sometimes the smallest differences can change the outcome.

I wonder if Jin Young will be able to regain her confidence and challenge for the title again.

Of course, I hope she plays well. But I also think that finding her rhythm again, one shot at a time, would be meaningful in itself.

Winning is wonderful, but watching a player work through a difficult period and find her way back can be just as interesting.

I will be cheering for her to show the world the quality of golf she is capable of playing.

One Little Disappointment — Sung Hyun Park Is Not Playing

There is just one thing that makes me a little sad about this tournament.

My favorite, Sung Hyun Park, is not on the entry list.

I love her big backswing and bold, powerful swing. I am drawn to golfers who have a style of their own rather than simply following a conventional model, and Sung Hyun has always had that distinctive quality.

Of course, not every player can participate in every tournament. There may be many reasons for a player's schedule and participation.

Still, I wish I could watch her swing in person at an LPGA tournament in Korea.

When you have a favorite player, even one name missing from the field can leave a little empty space in your excitement.

I guess that is part of being a golf fan. (smile)

My Golf-Watching Plans for This Week

This week, I will be watching Sei Young Kim as she defends her title, enjoying Hyo Joo Kim's precision and A Lim Kim's bold approach, and hoping Jin Young Ko can rediscover her best form.

I am also curious to see how the KLPGA players compete against the world's top golfers.

I don't know who will win, and I don't need to decide in advance.

I simply want to enjoy the four days of competition and see what each player brings to the course.

Playing golf is fun, of course, but watching excellent players can also teach us a great deal.

As I work on my own swing, I am learning to appreciate the strengths of different golfers without trying to copy anyone completely. I can learn from their rhythm, balance, or confidence while continuing to discover what works best for my own body.

That is part of the fun of golf for me.

So, this week, I will sit back, relax, and enjoy the tournament.

I am a little disappointed that Sung Hyun Park won't be there, but I am still looking forward to it.

Golf first. Life second.

이번 주에는 기다리던 LPGA 대회가 열린다.

바로 2026 BMW 레이디스 챔피언십이다.

한국에서 열리는 LPGA 투어 대회인 만큼 세계적인 선수들의 경기를 안방에서 볼 수 있다는 것이 반갑다. 올해는 KLPGA를 대표하는 선수들도 함께 출전해 더욱 흥미로운 대결이 펼쳐질 예정이다.

지난해 우승자 김세영, 타이틀 방어에 도전하다

가장 먼저 눈길이 가는 선수는 김세영이다.

김세영은 지난해 이 대회에서 와이어 투 와이어 우승을 차지했다. 첫날부터 마지막 날까지 선두를 지키며 고국에서 열린 대회에서 우승 트로피를 들어 올렸다.

올해는 디펜딩 챔피언으로 다시 출전해 대회 2연패에 도전한다.

지난해의 좋은 기억을 다시 재현할 수 있을까? 자신이 우승했던 대회에서 다시 경기를 한다는 것이 선수에게 어떤 마음으로 다가올지도 궁금하다.

내가 관심 있게 지켜보고 싶은 김효주와 김아림

나는 이번 대회에서 김효주와 김아림의 경기를 관심 있게 지켜보려고 한다.

김효주의 골프는 정교하고 리듬이 좋다. 서두르지 않으면서도 자신의 플레이를 차분하게 이어가는 모습이 인상적이다.

김아림에게서는 과감하고 시원한 골프의 매력을 느낀다. 공격적인 샷으로 경기를 풀어가는 모습을 보면 골프가 가진 또 다른 재미를 발견하게 된다.

골프를 좋아하는 이유 중 하나는 선수마다 스윙도 다르고 경기를 풀어가는 방식도 다르다는 것이다. 같은 코스에서도 각자 다른 선택을 하고, 그 선택이 서로 다른 결과로 이어진다.

요즘 나 역시 연습장에서 내 몸의 움직임을 느끼며 나만의 스윙을 찾아가는 중이다. 그래서인지 프로 선수들의 경기를 볼 때도 단순히 공이 어디로 가는지만 보는 것이 아니라 스윙의 리듬과 과감한 선택, 위기 상황에서의 대처까지 눈여겨보게 된다.

이번 대회에서도 그런 장면들을 발견하는 재미가 있을 것 같다.

고진영, 다시 자신의 골프를 보여줄 수 있을까?

그리고 고진영 선수도 빼놓을 수 없다.

고진영은 오랫동안 세계 여자 골프의 정상에서 활약했던 선수다. 정교한 아이언 샷과 뛰어난 경기 운영으로 세계적인 선수들과 경쟁하며 많은 골프 팬에게 깊은 인상을 남겼다.

그런데 최근에는 예전만큼 좋은 성적을 보여주지 못하는 모습이 이어져 아쉬움이 남는다.

한때 세계 최고의 자리에 올랐던 선수이기에 팬들이 기대하는 수준도 높을 것이다. 하지만 정상에 올랐던 선수라고 해서 언제나 최고의 경기력을 유지할 수 있는 것은 아니다. 골프는 작은 차이에도 결과가 달라지고, 선수마다 좋은 시기와 어려운 시기가 있기 마련이다.

그래서 이번 대회에서는 고진영이 어떤 모습을 보여줄지 궁금하다.

예전의 경기력을 되찾아 다시 우승 경쟁에 뛰어들 수 있을까? 아니면 조금씩 자신만의 리듬을 회복해 가는 과정을 보여줄까?

나는 고진영이 다시 자신감 있는 플레이를 펼치는 모습을 보고 싶다. 당장 우승해야 한다는 기대보다는, 자신이 가진 장점을 살려 편안하고 단단한 골프를 보여주기를 바란다.

정상에 오르는 것도 대단하지만, 어려운 시기를 지나 다시 자기 자리를 찾아가는 과정 역시 스포츠가 주는 흥미로운 이야기이기 때문이다.

그리고, 박성현 선수가 없어서 조금 서운하다

그런데 이번 출전 명단을 살펴보다가 조금 서운한 마음이 들었다.

내가 좋아하는 박성현 선수가 보이지 않는다.

박성현의 크고 시원한 백스윙과 과감한 스윙을 좋아한다. 정형화된 모습보다는 자신만의 색깔이 분명한 골프를 좋아하는데, 박성현의 플레이에는 그런 매력이 있다.

물론 모든 선수가 모든 대회에 출전할 수 있는 것은 아니다. 그래도 한국에서 열리는 LPGA 대회에서 박성현의 스윙을 볼 수 있었다면 얼마나 좋았을까.

좋아하는 선수가 출전하지 않는다는 사실 하나만으로도 대회를 기다리는 마음에 작은 빈자리가 생긴다.

골프를 좋아하다 보니 이런 아쉬움도 생기는 모양이다.😂

이번 주, 나의 골프 관전 포인트

이번 BMW 레이디스 챔피언십에서는 김세영의 타이틀 방어를 기대하고, 김효주의 정교한 플레이와 김아림의 과감한 샷을 지켜보려고 한다.

고진영이 자신의 경기력을 회복하는 모습을 보여줄 수 있을지도 관심사다. 그리고 LPGA 선수들과 함께 출전하는 KLPGA 선수들이 세계적인 선수들을 상대로 어떤 경기를 펼칠지도 궁금하다.

누가 우승할지는 아직 모른다. 결과를 미리 정해 놓기보다는 선수들이 나흘 동안 만들어 갈 경기를 즐기고 싶다.

골프는 직접 칠 때도 재미있지만, 좋은 선수들의 경기를 보면서 배우는 즐거움도 있다.

요즘 나도 연습장에서 내 스윙을 하나씩 발견해 가고 있다. 프로 선수들의 스윙을 보면서 좋은 점을 배우되, 결국 나에게 맞는 움직임을 찾아가는 것이 중요하다는 생각도 든다.

이번 주에는 편안하게 골프를 즐겨야겠다.

박성현 선수가 없다는 작은 아쉬움은 남지만, 그래도 기다려지는 대회다.
