Finding My Swing, Thinking More Deeply About My Life - 내 스윙을 찾다가, 내 삶을 더 깊이 생각하게 되었다
These days, I am trying to find my golf swing again.
I had my own basic swing.
But because I wanted to become a better golfer, I started learning from other people’s swings.
There is nothing wrong with learning good things.
The problem was that I mixed too many things together.
A little movement from this golfer.
Another movement from that golfer.
Before I knew it, my swing was no longer really mine.
And it was not really theirs, either. 😂😀
Now I am slowly finding my original swing again.
It is not 100% back yet, but at least I know which direction I should go.
And that made me think about life.
Maybe everyone has their own swing.
And maybe everyone has their own way of living, too.
I have actually tried many things in my life.
I have driven nice cars.
I have driven a sports car.
I once even lived at the InterContinental Hotel in Gangnam, Seoul, for a whole month.
The first week was wonderful.
It was comfortable, convenient, and a little exciting.
But after that?
I was so bored and frustrated that I almost felt like I was going crazy. 😂😀
That experience taught me something simple.
Something can be nice without being right for me.
There is nothing wrong with a luxury hotel.
There is nothing wrong with an expensive car, either.
I still like beautiful things.
I still enjoy nice things.
But after experiencing them myself, I learned that what I like and what I actually need are not always the same.
That is probably one reason I am so happy with my little Morning now.
When I see a beautiful car, I can still think,
“Wow, that’s nice.”
Sometimes I see a cool yellow Jeep at a golf course and think,
“Maybe I should drive one of those someday.” 😂😀
But for my life in Seogwipo, my Morning fits me very well.
It is easy to park.
It is easy to drive on small roads.
I can use small parking spaces.
And if something goes wrong, I can leave it at a neighborhood repair shop and simply take a taxi home.
And if I ever change my car?
I will probably buy another Morning.
Maybe just a different color. 😂😀
The more I think about it, the more I realize that this is not really about cars.
Maybe I am less tempted by material things now because I have already experienced many of them.
I have tried them.
I know what they feel like.
So when I see something beautiful, I can admire it without feeling that I must have it.
Experience did not make me stop liking nice things.
It simply taught me the difference between what I like and what I need.
Golf has taught me something similar.
I tried so hard to make my swing better that I almost lost my own swing.
Now I am learning to come back to myself.
Maybe life is like that, too.
We can learn from other people.
We can admire their lives.
We can try new things.
But at some point, we have to ask ourselves:
Does this really fit my life?
I don't need the best.
I need what fits my life.
My swing.
My car.
My life.
And maybe that is enough. 😂😀
Practice was a little frustrating today.
I kept thinking about my swing,
what was wrong,
and what I needed to fix.
It was not a big problem,
but somehow it made my head a little tired.
Then, on my way home in my little Morning,
I suddenly started laughing.
“Angie, think about it.
Even worrying about your golf swing at a practice range
could feel like a luxury to someone else.” 😂😀
So I just laughed.
Yes, today was a little difficult.
But I can play golf.
I can worry about my swing.
And I have another day to keep working on it.
That is actually a pretty good life. 😂😀
When I think about it, it is actually quite funny.
Five or six years ago,
worrying about my golf swing would honestly have felt like a luxury.
I simply did not have the time or space for that kind of worry.
But now, at 60,
I go to the practice range and worry about my golf swing. 😂😀
On my way home, I sometimes laugh at myself.
“Wow. I am enjoying this kind of luxury now.”
The luxury of worrying about a golf swing.
The luxury of looking at a beautiful car and admiring it for a moment.
The luxury of having enough time to think about
what really fits my life.
These may look like small things.
But perhaps they are a kind of happiness I did not have before.
At 60,
I realize that I am living a more luxurious life than I once imagined. 😂😀
Not because I have more expensive things.
But because I have something much more valuable:
the time and freedom to think about how I want to live my life.
Maybe that is the greatest luxury I have now.
Objectively, it was a pretty luxurious problem.
I was at a golf practice range,
feeling so frustrated about my swing
that I almost wanted to cry.
Someone might say,
“What could possibly be so difficult about that?” 😂😀
And they would have a point.
Five or six years ago,
I did not even have the luxury of worrying about something like this.
But today,
I was genuinely upset about my golf swing.
Life is funny.
Some worries may look like a luxury from the outside,
but they can still feel like real pain in the moment.
I was having a hard day today.
And I don't think I need to pretend otherwise.
But on my way home in my little Morning,
I suddenly looked at myself from a little distance.
“Angie, look how much your life has changed.
Five or six years ago,
even having this kind of worry would have been a luxury.
And now you are almost crying over your golf swing.” 😂😀
I laughed to myself.
Maybe we don't have to deny the hard days.
We just have to live through them,
and someday, look back at ourselves with a little smile.
Maybe that is another small kind of freedom
I have gained at 60.
KR Version
My swing.
My car.
My life.
I don't need the best.
I need what fits my life.
