LPGA - Hyo Joo Kim: Two Golf Tournaments I Want to Watch This October - 김효주를 한 달에 두 번 만나는 골프의 즐거움

There is a golfer I especially enjoy watching.

Her name is Hyo Joo Kim.

And this October, I have two good reasons to watch golf in Korea.

Hyo Joo Kim will be playing in both.

The first one is the Aramco Korea Championship this week.

Then, later this month, the BMW Ladies Championship will be held in Korea.

I already know which player I will be watching.

Hyo Joo Kim.

A Special Tournament for Hyo Joo

The 2026 Aramco Korea Championship will be held from October 8 to 11 at New Korea Country Club.

It is not a KLPGA Tour event.
It is a Ladies European Tour event and part of the PIF Global Series.

But this tournament is especially interesting for Hyo Joo Kim.

She won it in 2024.

Then she won it again in 2025.

Now she is back in 2026, trying to win it for the third time in a row.

A three-peat.

That makes this week's tournament even more interesting to me.

I like these kinds of golf stories.

Not only the world rankings or prize money, but the stories that build up between a player and a tournament.

Two wins.

Then another chance.

And I get to watch it happen.

Then Comes the BMW Ladies Championship

Later this month, from October 22 to 25, the LPGA Tour will come to Korea for the BMW Ladies Championship.

This year's tournament will be played at Pine Beach Golf Links in Haenam.

The field will feature 84 players, and the tournament will be played over 72 holes.

The total purse is $2.35 million.

In 2025, Sei Young Kim won the tournament, while Hyo Joo Kim finished tied for 10th.

So, of course, I am curious to see what Hyo Joo will do this year.

Why I Like Watching Hyo Joo

I don't like Hyo Joo Kim only because of her results.

As I have watched more and more golf,
I have started to notice how players play, not just where they finish.

I like her calm and precise style.

And 2026 has already been a very impressive year for her on the LPGA Tour.

In March, she won the Fortinet Founders Cup.

The following week, she won the Ford Championship.

Two LPGA wins in a row.

That is not something we see every week.

So now I am even more curious about her fall season.

Golf Becomes More Fun When You Have Someone to Watch

When I first started watching golf,
I simply watched the tournament.

These days, it is a little different.

When I see a familiar name on the leaderboard, I think,

“Oh, Hyo Joo is playing today.”

And somehow, I want to watch a little longer.

Maybe this is one of the small joys of following golf for a long time.

At some point, you find a player you want to keep watching.

To someone else, she may simply be a professional golfer.

But to me, she is a player whose golf I enjoy following.

And this October, I get to watch her play in Korea twice.

First, the Aramco Korea Championship.

Then, the BMW Ladies Championship.

I am not going to predict what will happen.

She may win.

She may finish somewhere else.

She may have a great week, or a difficult one.

That is golf.

But I will enjoy watching.

Because sometimes, having a golfer you want to watch
is part of what makes golf more fun.

Golf is more fun when you have someone you want to watch.

And yes,

요즘 내가 좋아하는 여자 골퍼가
한국에서 연달아 경기를 한다.

바로 김효주 선수다.

이번 주에는 Aramco Korea Championship이 열린다.
그리고 이달 말에는 BMW Ladies Championship이 기다리고 있다.

골프를 좋아하는 사람에게 이런 일정은 꽤 즐겁다.

특히 김효주는 내가 좋아하는 선수라서 더 그렇다.

이번 주, 김효주는 한국에서 3연패에 도전한다

2026 Aramco Korea Championship은
10월 8일부터 11일까지 뉴코리아 컨트리클럽에서 열린다.

이 대회는 KLPGA 투어 대회는 아니고,
Ladies European Tour(LET)의 PIF Global Series 대회다.

그런데 김효주에게는 아주 특별한 대회다.

김효주는 2024년 첫 대회에서 우승했고,
2025년에도 우승했다.

그래서 올해 다시 출전하면서
사상 첫 3연패에 도전하게 되었다.

두 번이나 우승한 선수가
세 번째 우승을 노리고 다시 같은 대회에 나오는 것.

생각만 해도 재미있다.

나는 이런 이야기가 좋다.

단순히 누가 현재 세계 몇 위인지보다,
한 선수가 한 대회와 어떤 이야기를 만들어 가는지가 더 재미있기 때문이다.

그리고 10월에는 BMW Ladies Championship

10월 22일부터 25일까지는
해남의 Pine Beach Golf Links에서
BMW Ladies Championship이 열린다.

LPGA 투어의 한국 대회다.

84명의 선수가 출전하고
72홀 스트로크 플레이로 진행된다.

총상금은 235만 달러.

2025년 우승자는 김세영 선수였고,
김효주는 공동 10위로 대회를 마쳤다.

그러니 올해 김효주가 어떤 경기를 보여줄지도 궁금하다.

김효주를 더 좋아하게 된 이유

사실 김효주를 좋아하게 된 것은
단순히 성적 때문만은 아니다.

나는 골프를 오래 보다 보니
선수들의 스윙이나 기록뿐 아니라
그 선수가 경기를 풀어가는 방식도 보게 된다.

김효주는 내가 좋아하는
정확하고 차분한 골프를 보여주는 선수다.

그리고 2026년 LPGA에서도 정말 인상적인 시즌을 보내고 있다.

3월에는 Fortinet Founders Cup에서 우승했고,
바로 다음 주 Ford Championship에서도 우승했다.

LPGA에서 연속 우승.

이건 역시 쉽게 볼 수 있는 장면은 아니다.

올해 현재까지 김효주는 LPGA에서 2승을 기록했고,
15개 대회에 출전해 13번 컷을 통과했으며
6번의 Top 10을 기록하고 있다.

그래서 나는 이번 가을의 김효주 경기가 더 궁금하다.

골프를 보다 보면 기다리는 선수가 생긴다

예전에는 골프 중계를 보면
그냥 경기를 봤다.

요즘은 조금 다르다.

“오늘 김효주가 나오네.”

그러면 괜히 한 번 더 보게 된다.

이것도 골프를 오래 좋아하면서 생긴 작은 즐거움인 것 같다.

누군가에게는 유명한 선수일 뿐이지만
나에게는 내가 좋아하고, 계속 지켜보고 싶은 선수.

그리고 이번 10월에는
그 선수를 한국에서 두 번이나 볼 수 있다.

이번 주에는 Aramco Korea Championship.

그리고 조금 기다리면 BMW Ladies Championship.

Golf is more fun when you have someone you want to watch.

나는 이번 가을,
김효주의 골프를 조금 더 즐겨볼 생각이다.

우승을 하든,
좋은 경기를 하든,
혹은 생각보다 어려운 하루를 보내든.

그냥 좋아하는 선수가
내가 사는 나라에서 골프를 하는 모습을 볼 수 있다는 것.

그것만으로도 꽤 좋은 골프의 선물이다.
