Lately, I have been watching more golf and suddenly became curious.
I know the LPGA, but what exactly is the LET?
And what is LETAS?
I especially noticed the Ladies European Tour (LET).
The name says “European,” but the players travel all over the world — not only Europe, but also Asia, Australia, the Middle East, and other parts of the world.
So I decided to study it for myself.
And the more I learned, the more interesting it became.
1. LPGA — A Global Women’s Professional Golf Tour
The LPGA Tour is based in the United States and is one of the major women’s professional golf tours in the world.
The LPGA was founded in 1950.
Although it is based in the U.S., the LPGA now holds tournaments in many countries around the world.
So it may sound like an “American tour,” but it is actually very international.
Players we often see on television, such as
Nelly Korda
Lydia Ko
Hyo Joo Kim
Jeeno Thitikul
Minjee Lee
compete on the LPGA Tour.
2. LET — Ladies European Tour
So, what is the LET?
LET stands for Ladies European Tour.
It began as a European women’s professional golf tour.
But today, you should not think of LET as a tour that only plays in Europe.
The 2026 LET schedule is highly international, with tournaments in many different parts of the world.
That is why I recently found myself thinking:
“Wait. If it is the European Tour, why is there a tournament in Korea?”
Haha.
That was what made me curious.
The name is European, but the playing field has become global.
3. And What Is LETAS?
Then I found another name:
LETAS — LET Access Series.
In simple terms, LETAS is an important competitive pathway for players who are trying to reach the LET.
Not every player has to go through LETAS.
Players can reach professional golf through different routes, including amateur golf, national tours, Q-School, and other qualifying paths.
But LETAS is an important development and competition series connected to the LET.
Very simply, we could think of it like this:
LETAS → LET → Major international women’s professional golf
Of course, real career paths are not always this simple.
4. So, Are LPGA and LET Rivals?
This was another thing I wanted to understand.
At first, I thought LPGA and LET were completely separate worlds.
But they are actually connected in several ways.
They are separate tours, but some tournaments bring them together through co-sanctioned events.
In 2026, several important tournaments show this connection.
⛳ Amundi Evian Championship
The Amundi Evian Championship is one of the five major championships in women’s golf.
It is played in France and is also an important part of the LPGA schedule.
A major championship played in Europe is a good example of how closely the American and European sides of women’s golf are connected.
⛳ AIG Women’s Open
The AIG Women’s Open is another major championship, played in the United Kingdom.
It is part of the LPGA’s major championship schedule and is also deeply connected with the LET.
⛳ ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open
The Women’s Scottish Open is played in Scotland and is another good example of a tournament jointly connected to the LPGA Tour and LET.
LPGA and LET players can compete together on the same course.
⛳ Aramco Championship
And then there is the tournament that made me curious in the first place.
Aramco. Haha.
But there is something important to understand here.
We need to distinguish between the different Aramco tournaments.
5. How Many Aramco Tournaments Are There in 2026?
In 2026, tournaments carrying the Aramco name are being played in three countries:
🇺🇸 United States — Aramco Championship
The tournament was held at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas in April.
This was a particularly interesting event because it was jointly held by the LPGA Tour and LET.
The total purse was $4 million, and the winner received $600,000.
🇰🇷 Korea — Aramco Korea Championship
And this is the tournament being played this week in Korea.
October 8–11
New Korea Country Club
The total purse is $2 million.
And this is important:
$2 million is the total purse, not the winner’s prize.
The tournament is part of the LET schedule and is being played as a 72-hole individual stroke-play event.
🇨🇳 China — Aramco China Championship
Then, in November, another Aramco tournament will be held in China.
November 5–8
Mission Hills, Shenzhen
The total purse is $2 million.
So, when we look only at the tournaments with “Aramco” in their names in 2026:
United States 🇺🇸
Korea 🇰🇷
China 🇨🇳
That is three countries.
6. But the PIF Global Series Covers Five Countries
Then I discovered another interesting connection.
The PIF Global Series has five tournaments in 2026, taking women’s professional golf to five countries:
🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia — PIF Saudi Ladies International
🇺🇸 United States — Aramco Championship
🇬🇧 United Kingdom — PIF London Championship
🇰🇷 Korea — Aramco Korea Championship
🇨🇳 China — Aramco China Championship
So:
PIF Global Series = 5 countries, 5 tournaments
And within those five tournaments:
Aramco-named tournaments = United States, Korea, and China
Now it makes much more sense to me. Haha.
7. So, Why Do We Sometimes See the Same Player on LPGA and LET?
Now I understand why I sometimes think:
“Wait, I saw this player on the LPGA. Why is she playing here too?”
It is not unusual.
Depending on their eligibility and schedules, players can compete in tournaments on different tours.
And when LPGA and LET are connected through major or co-sanctioned events, players from both tours can compete together.
That is why women’s professional golf is much more internationally connected than I had realized.
8. And Then There Is Q-School
There is another important part of professional golf:
Q-School.
Professional golf is not simply about finding tournaments to play.
Players have to earn and maintain their playing opportunities.
The LPGA has Q-Series, and the LET has its own Q School.
There are also different routes into professional golf, depending on a player’s background and qualifications.
And for the LET, the LET Access Series is another important competitive pathway.
So, very simply, we can think of the women’s professional golf world like this:
Amateur Golf
↓
Qualifying routes / Q-School
↓
Development and competitive tours such as LETAS
↓
Major professional tours such as LET and LPGA
↓
Major championships and co-sanctioned events
Of course, not every player follows exactly this path.
There are many different roads into professional golf.
9. I Learned Something Else Just by Watching Golf
Honestly, I only started looking this up because I was watching golf and became curious.
But once I learned one thing, another question appeared.
Why is it called LPGA?
Why is it called LET?
What exactly is LETAS?
And then:
Why is Aramco played in the United States, Korea, and China?
I learned that women’s professional golf is not just one single tour.
Different tours operate independently, but they are also connected through
co-sanctioned tournaments,
major championships,
players competing across tours,
Q-School,
and different qualifying systems.
At first, it seemed complicated.
But once I understood how the pieces fit together, it became much more interesting.
And I really enjoy this kind of learning.
I have played golf for many years, but that does not mean I know everything about golf.
The more I watch golf, the more I find something I do not know.
So I look it up.
And then I get that little moment of:
“Oh, so that’s why!”
I am over 60 now, and I still have so many things I want to know.
I still enjoy learning something new.
Golf is like that.
And maybe life is, too.
Golf first. Life second.
And maybe, learning forever.

요즘 골프 경기를 보다 보니 갑자기 궁금해졌다.
LPGA는 알겠는데, LET는 뭐지?
그리고 LETAS는 또 뭐지?
특히 요즘 보고 있는 Ladies European Tour(LET)를 보면 이름은 분명 “European”인데, 선수들은 유럽뿐만 아니라 호주, 아시아, 중동, 미국 등 세계 곳곳에서 경기를 한다.
그러다 보니 나처럼 골프를 좋아하지만 여자 프로골프 투어를 깊이 따라가지는 않았던 사람에게는 조금 헷갈릴 수 있다.
그래서 오늘은 나도 공부할 겸 하나씩 정리해 보았다.
1. LPGA — 미국을 중심으로 하는 세계적인 여자 프로골프 투어
LPGA Tour는 미국을 기반으로 하는 대표적인 여자 프로골프 투어다.
1950년에 설립되었고, 지금은 미국뿐 아니라 세계 여러 나라에서 대회를 개최한다.
그래서 LPGA라는 이름 때문에 미국에서만 경기한다고 생각하기 쉽지만, 실제로는 상당히 국제적인 투어다.

같은 선수들이 활약하는 무대가 바로 LPGA Tour다.
2. LET — Ladies European Tour
그렇다면 LET(Ladies European Tour)는?
말 그대로 유럽에서 출발한 여자 프로골프 투어다.
그런데 지금의 LET는 이름만 보고 “유럽에서만 열리는 투어”라고 생각하면 안 된다.
2026년 LET는 세계 여러 지역을 이동하는 매우 국제적인 일정으로 운영되고 있다.
그래서 내가 요즘 LET 경기를 보면서
“어? European Tour인데 왜 한국에서도 하지?”
라고 생각했던 것이다. ㅎㅎ
바로 이 부분이 재미있었다.
이름은 European Tour이지만, 활동 무대는 이미 세계로 넓어져 있다.
3. 그런데 LETAS는 또 뭐지?
여기서 또 하나 등장하는 것이 있다.
LETAS — LET Access Series
쉽게 말하면 LET로 진출하려는 선수들에게 중요한 경쟁 무대라고 생각하면 된다.
모든 선수가 반드시 LETAS를 거쳐야 하는 것은 아니다.
선수들은 아마추어 경력, 국가별 투어, Q-School 등 여러 경로를 통해 프로 무대로 올라간다.
하지만 LETAS는 LET로 올라가기 위한 중요한 통로 중 하나다.
아주 단순하게 생각하면,
LETAS → LET → 세계적인 여자 프로골프 무대
라고 이해하면 쉽다.
4. 그러면 LPGA와 LET는 경쟁 관계일까?
이것도 내가 궁금했던 부분이다.
처음에는 두 투어가 완전히 별개의 세계라고 생각했다.
그런데 알아보니 그렇지 않았다.
LPGA와 LET는 각각 독립적인 투어이지만, 일부 대회를 통해 서로 연결되어 있다.
특히 공동 개최(co-sanctioned) 대회가 중요한 역할을 한다.
2026년에는 다음과 같은 대회들이 LPGA와 LET의 연결을 보여준다.
⛳ Amundi Evian Championship
프랑스에서 열리는 여자골프의 5대 메이저 중 하나다.
유럽에서 열리지만 LPGA의 메이저 대회이기도 하다.
이런 대회를 보면 미국과 유럽 여자골프가 얼마나 밀접하게 연결되어 있는지 알 수 있다.
⛳ AIG Women's Open
영국에서 열리는 또 하나의 여자골프 메이저다.
LPGA Tour의 메이저 대회이면서 LET와도 깊이 연결되어 있는 대표적인 대회다.
⛳ ISPS HANDA Women's Scottish Open
스코틀랜드에서 열리는 대회로, LPGA Tour와 LET가 공동 개최하는 대표적인 대회다.
유럽 무대에서 LPGA 선수들과 LET 선수들이 함께 경쟁하는 모습을 볼 수 있다.

그리고 내가 요즘 Aramco 대회를 보면서 궁금했던 바로 그 대회다. ㅎㅎ
그런데 여기서는 Aramco 대회를 서로 구분해야 한다.
5. 2026년 Aramco 대회는 몇 개나 있을까?
알고 보니 Aramco라는 이름이 붙은 대회는 2026년에 미국, 한국, 중국에서 열린다.
🇺🇸 미국 — Aramco Championship
4월 2–5일
Shadow Creek, Las Vegas
이 대회는 2026년에 LPGA Tour와 LET가 처음으로 공동 개최한 Aramco Championship이다.
총상금은 무려 $4 million.
우승상금은 $600,000이었다.
🇰🇷 한국 — Aramco Korea Championship
그리고 바로 이번 주 한국에서 열리는 대회다.
10월 8–11일
New Korea Country Club
총상금은 $2 million이다.
여기서 중요한 것!
$2 million은 우승상금이 아니라 총상금이다.
이번 대회는 LET 대회로 열리며, 72홀 개인 스트로크 플레이 방식으로 진행된다.

그리고 11월에는 중국에서도 열린다.

6. 그런데 PIF Global Series는 5개국이다
여기서 또 하나 알게 된 사실.
Aramco 대회만 있는 것이 아니다.
2026년 PIF Global Series는 총 5개 대회로 구성되어 있으며,
🇸🇦 사우디아라비아 — PIF Saudi Ladies International
🇺🇸 미국 — Aramco Championship
🇬🇧 영국 — PIF London Championship
🇰🇷 한국 — Aramco Korea Championship
🇨🇳 중국 — Aramco China Championship
이렇게 5개국을 돌며 열린다.
즉,
PIF Global Series = 5개국, 5개 대회
그중
Aramco 이름이 붙은 대회 = 미국, 한국, 중국의 3개 대회
라고 이해하면 된다.
이제 조금 정리가 된다. ㅎㅎ
7. 그래서 같은 선수가 LPGA와 LET에서 모두 보이기도 한다
이제 골프를 보다가
“어? 이 선수 LPGA에서 봤는데 왜 여기에도 있지?”
라는 생각이 들어도 이상할 것이 없다.
선수에 따라 여러 투어의 대회에 출전하기도 하고, LPGA와 LET가 연결된 대회에서는 양쪽 투어의 선수들이 함께 경쟁하기도 한다.
그래서 여자 프로골프는 우리가 생각하는 것보다 훨씬 국제적으로 연결되어 있다.
8. 그리고 중요한 것이 Q-School
프로골퍼에게 투어는 단순히
“경기를 하는 곳”
이 아니다.
계속해서 자신의 자격을 얻고 유지해야 하는 세계이기도 하다.
LPGA에는 Q-Series가 있고, LET에도 Q School이 있다.
선수들은 이런 과정을 비롯해 다양한 경로를 통해 각 투어에 진입한다.
그리고 LET에는 LET Access Series도 있다.
그래서 여자 프로골프를 아주 단순하게 그려보면,
아마추어 골프

각종 프로 진출 경로 / Q-School
↓
LETAS 같은 발전·경쟁 무대
↓
LET / LPGA 등 주요 프로 투어

메이저 및 공동 개최 대회
이렇게 여러 길이 서로 연결되어 있다고 볼 수 있다.
물론 모든 선수가 이 순서대로 올라가는 것은 아니다.
9. 골프를 보다 보니 또 하나 배웠다
사실 나는 그냥 골프 경기를 보다 궁금해서 찾아본 것뿐이다.
그런데 하나를 알아보니 또 다른 것이 궁금해진다.
LPGA는 왜 LPGA이고,
LET는 왜 LET이고,
LETAS는 왜 필요한가?
그리고 Aramco는 왜 미국에서도 열리고, 한국에서도 열리고, 중국에서도 열리는가?
알고 보니 여자 프로골프는 하나의 투어만 존재하는 세계가 아니었다.
여러 투어가 각각 움직이면서도
공동 개최 대회, 메이저 대회, 선수들의 출전, Q-School과 여러 자격 제도
등을 통해 서로 연결되어 있었다.
처음에는 복잡해 보였는데, 하나씩 알아가니 오히려 재미있다.
그리고 나는 이런 공부가 참 좋다.
골프를 오래 쳤다고 해서 골프를 다 아는 것도 아니고,
골프를 계속 보다 보면 아직도 모르는 것이 나온다.
그래서 또 찾아보고,
“아, 그래서 그랬구나!”
하고 알아가는 순간이 생긴다.
60이 넘어서도 여전히 궁금한 것이 있고,
새로운 것을 배우는 것이 재미있다.
골프도 그렇고 삶도 그렇다.
