Nobody Is Happy Every Day. Me, Either. -
Nobody is happy every day.
Me, either. 😂
This morning, I played nine holes with some good golfing friends.
They are always friendly and nice. They are a little older than me, but they are all passionate golfers.
The weather was beautiful, the course was peaceful, and we simply enjoyed playing together.
Honestly, just being able to enjoy a beautiful morning like this should have been enough to make me happy.
But apparently, I wanted more. 😂
My golf swing has been a little inconsistent lately.
Sometimes I hit a really clean, beautiful shot, and I think,
“Ah, my swing is finally coming back.”
But the next day, it somehow disappears again.
Today, after nine holes, I decided to practice some more.
I had 90 minutes at the range.
I practiced for about an hour.
But my body just wasn't cooperating.
I knew what I was trying to do.
At the beginning of my backswing, I need to let my lower body start naturally and then let my upper body follow.
But I was keeping my lower body too still and trying to turn only my shoulders.
My body felt tight, my grip felt unnatural, and my shots didn't feel right.
I tried this way and that way.
Every once in a while, I hit a good one.
“Ah, that's it!”
Then another bad one. 😂😀
Eventually, I gave up and went home.
I still had 30 minutes left.
Maybe that was actually the best decision I made all day.
After taking a shower, I watched a movie and tried to forget about golf.
But I was still in a bad mood.
Then I took Ruby and Rich out for a walk.
And while walking around the neighborhood, I suddenly thought:
Why am I so upset?
The weather was beautiful.
I played nine holes with good people.
I had my favorite brunch.
I practiced golf for an hour.
And I came home and took a walk with Ruby and Rich.
What more did I need?
Suddenly, my golf problem seemed a little funny.
Maybe I was simply asking for too much.
I haven't even been able to practice properly for the past month because I've been busy with my students, midterm preparation, interpreting, and other things.
Yet because I have a round tomorrow, I wanted my swing to suddenly become perfect today.
Of course, everyone wants to hit a beautiful golf shot.
I do, too.
But beautiful shots don't come from wishing.
They come from time, repetition, patience, and a lot of practice.
And I don't need to hurt my body trying to make it happen faster.
I'm 60.
I'm not going to a long-drive competition. 😂
This is my life.
Golf is supposed to be part of my life, not something that makes my whole day miserable.
So tomorrow, I'm going to remember just one thing.
Let my lower body move naturally.
That's it.
No trying to fix everything.
No chasing the perfect swing.
I'll just play.
If I hit a beautiful shot, I'll enjoy it.
If I don't, I'll hit the next one.
Because today I realized something simple.
A good day doesn't have to be a perfect day.
Maybe this is what I call building my wisdom muscle.
Learning to notice all the good things that were already there, even when one little thing didn't go the way I wanted.
Nobody is happy every day.
Me, either.
But today was still a pretty good day. 😊
Today's Verdict
Verdict: Today’s complaint was a little bit of a first-world complaint. 😂💕
There are so many people dealing with truly difficult things.
And here I was, feeling down because a few golf shots didn't go the way I wanted.
But look at my day.
I wasn't sick.
I got up early and moved my body.
I played nine holes with good people.
I practiced for an hour.
I came home and took Ruby and Rich for a walk.
They were healthy, too.
What more could I ask for?
Why should a few bad golf shots matter so much?
Maybe the truly amazing thing wasn't hitting a beautiful shot.
Maybe it was simply being healthy enough to get up early, play golf, keep moving, and enjoy an ordinary day with people and dogs I love.
Perhaps this is another little piece of my wisdom muscle.
Tomorrow, I'm not going to the golf course to prove anything.
I'm going there because I'm healthy, I can play, and I get to enjoy another beautiful day.
The golf shot is just part of it.
It doesn't have to be perfect.

KR Version
KR Today's Verdict
