The Day I Got an Extra Day - 하루가 덤으로 생긴 날

This morning, I had a golf game scheduled for 8 a.m.

I had been checking the weather forecast since early morning. The rain looked heavy, and I thought it might be better to cancel. However, when I called the golf course, they said the weather was fine enough to play nine holes.

So I got dressed and left home.

But there was something else on my mind.

Before leaving, I heard thunder and saw lightning. Rich, who is usually a very brave dog, gets terribly frightened during thunderstorms. He trembles and has a hard time.

As I opened the door, Rich lowered his tail and stayed close behind me, as if he were saying, “Mom, where are you going? It's thundering. Don't leave me!”

It broke my heart to leave him like that.

Still, I had made a promise to meet the other golfers. Some of them were coming from far away, and I felt that keeping our plans mattered, too. Since the golf course was only about 15 minutes away, I decided to go, say hello to everyone, and come back quickly if the game was canceled.

On the way, the rain suddenly poured down as if the sky had opened up. Water rushed across the road, and visibility became so poor that even driving slowly with my hazard lights on was difficult.

I finally reached the golf course parking lot, but the rain was so heavy that I couldn't even get out of my car.

The group leader eventually announced that the game was canceled. Several people had already arrived, and everyone had to turn around and head home.

So I drove back, too.

Fortunately, our neighborhood seemed to have received less rain, and everything at home appeared to be fine.

I was relieved.

To be honest, I had been more worried about Rich than about missing my golf game. I love golf, but I knew how frightened he might be during the thunderstorm.

Today, I didn't hit a single golf ball. But perhaps I received something else in return.

A day I had set aside for golf became an extra day for myself.

Sometimes, plans change for reasons beyond our control. We may feel disappointed at first, but there can be a little relief hidden in those unexpected changes.

Today, I'm simply grateful that everyone is safe and that I can spend the rest of the day at home with Ruby and Rich.

Perhaps that is more than enough for one day.

KR Version

Rich's eyes said, "Mom, please don't leave me today." ❤️
