The Day Rich Hit the Jackpot 🐕🌊- 리치가 계탄날^^

Rich loves going to new places.

When we go for a walk, he sometimes turns in a direction we do not usually take.

Then he pulls on his leash and makes little whining sounds.

“I want to go that way!”

When I am busy or not feeling well, I usually pull the leash back.

“Rich, not today. Let’s go home.”

But today was different.

It was time to turn around and go home, but Rich suddenly turned toward a different road again.

He pulled on his leash and whined.

I looked at him for a moment and said,

“Okay, Rich.
Today is your lucky day. 😂💖

You want to go somewhere new and smell everything you can.

Let’s go.”

So today, I followed the road Rich wanted to take.

We walked a little farther and went to a park where we could see the sea.

Rich was very busy smelling everything around him.

And I slowly followed him.

There is one thing about Rich that still amazes me.

Rich has always loved exploring new places.

Before, he also loved walking in the direction where Ruby had her accident.

But after I rescued Ruby from that cliff, Rich has never pulled me in that direction again.

Not even once.

I never stopped him from going there.

I never taught him to avoid that road.

He simply does not go that way anymore.

I do not know how much dogs remember,
or what they feel inside.

So it is even more amazing to me.

Today, Rich was so excited to explore a new place.

But that old road is still the one direction he never chooses.

I sometimes just look at him and wonder.

Today was the day Rich hit the jackpot.

And thanks to him, I got to walk all the way to a park by the sea, too.

It was just an ordinary walk.

But I liked today. ^^

리치는 새로운 곳을 좋아한다.

산책을 하다 보면 가끔 내가 평소에 잘 가지 않는 방향으로 몸을 돌린다.
그리고 목줄을 낑낑거리며 당긴다.

“저쪽으로 가고 싶어!”

평소 내가 바쁘거나 컨디션이 좋지 않은 날에는
리치가 아무리 당겨도 그냥 목줄을 잡아당긴다.

“리치야, 오늘은 안 돼. 집에 가자.”

그런데 오늘은 달랐다.

집으로 돌아가야 할 시간이 되었는데,
리치가 또 평소와 다른 방향으로 몸을 돌렸다.

목줄을 당기면서 낑낑거렸다.

나는 잠시 리치를 바라보다가 말했다.

“그래, 리치야.
오늘 너 계탔다. ㅎㅎ

새로운 곳에 가서 냄새를 맘껏 맡고 싶구나.

가자.”

그래서 오늘은 리치가 가고 싶어 하는 길을 따라갔다.

조금 더 걸어서 바다가 보이는 공원까지 갔다.

리치는 여기저기 냄새를 맡느라 바빴고,
나는 천천히 그 모습을 따라다녔다.

그런데 산책을 하다 보면 지금도 신기한 것이 하나 있다.

리치는 원래 새로운 곳을 찾아다니는 것을 좋아하고,
예전에는 Ruby가 사고를 당했던 그쪽 길도 아주 신나게 다니던 아이였다.

그런데 Ruby를 그 절벽에서 구조한 후에는
리치가 그 방향으로 목줄을 당긴 적이 한 번도 없다.

정말 신기하다.

내가 막는 것도 아니다.
내가 그쪽 길을 피하라고 가르친 것도 아니다.

그냥 리치가 스스로 그쪽으로 가지 않는다.

강아지가 어디까지 기억하고 있는지,
무엇을 느끼고 있는지 나는 정확히 알 수 없다.

그래서 더 신기하다.

오늘처럼 새로운 곳을 보면 그렇게 신나하면서도
그 길만큼은 다시 찾지 않는 리치를 보면
가끔 나는 한참 바라보게 된다.

오늘은 리치가 계탄날이었다.

그리고 덕분에 나도 바다가 보이는 공원까지 걸어갔다.

별것 아닌 산책 같지만,
이런 날이 나는 좋다. ^^
