Today, an Unexpected Vine of Luck Found Me - 오늘 엔지에게 찾아온 뜻밖의 행운 덩쿨은?
Today was my hospital day.
Every three months, I travel to a hospital in Jeju City for a regular checkup. It is quite far from my home, but I have continued going there because it is a general hospital and I also have detailed blood tests twice a year.
So this morning, I made up my mind to take the bus.
At 7:25 a.m., I arrived at the bus stop.
Because there have been more COVID cases around lately, I was already thinking about the long bus ride with my mask on the whole way. I was standing just outside the bus stop, holding my mask in my hand so I could put it on as soon as the bus arrived.
And then something unexpected happened.
Someone I knew came walking toward me.
“Where are you going?”
“I’m going to Halla Hospital. I’m waiting for the bus.”
“Oh, I’m going that way, too. Come with me in my car.”
What?!
😂
I was simply waiting for the bus, and suddenly a car came instead.
He is a restaurant owner who recently opened his second restaurant. We also happen to be members of the same golf practice range, and we have played golf together twice.
I told him, “You can just drop me somewhere along the way. I can take the bus from there.”
But he immediately put my hospital into his navigation system and drove me all the way to the hospital.
On the way, he told me one story after another about times when he had almost died.
I listened, reacted, laughed, and kept him company.
So my long and uncomfortable bus trip suddenly became a very entertaining morning drive.
🍀 Lucky No. 1.
I arrived at the hospital earlier than expected.
After checking in, I sat down and waited for my appointment.
Then a medical student, I think, came over and asked if I could fill out a questionnaire for a study related to my condition.
It was quite thick.
I can imagine that many people might politely say no after seeing how many pages there were.
But I have written academic papers several times, so I know how valuable every completed questionnaire can be for research.
I said, “Sure. I’ll do it.”
And I carefully filled out the entire questionnaire.
When I finished, they thanked me and gave me a 5 dollars gift certificate.
🍀 Lucky No. 2.
And there was one more.
Because I had arrived early and finished the questionnaire while waiting, I was called in for my appointment about 20 minutes earlier than scheduled.
🍀 Lucky No. 3.
So the hospital visit that I had expected to be a long, tiring morning was over before I knew it.
I started the morning thinking,
“I guess I have to spend an hour and a half traveling by bus today.”
Instead:
A kind person appeared at the bus stop.
I got a comfortable ride all the way to the hospital.
I had a surprisingly fun conversation.
I received a 5 dollars n gift certificate.
And I finished my appointment 20 minutes early.
What a lucky day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🍀
But you know what I find most interesting?
I didn't do anything special to make these things happen.
I simply got up early, got ready, went to the bus stop, held my mask in my hand, and waited.
Then, somehow, luck found me.
Maybe luck doesn't always arrive in a dramatic way.
Sometimes, you are just standing at a bus stop at 7:25 in the morning…
and luck walks toward you.
Today, I was waiting for a bus.
But luck came by car. 😊
What a lucky day.
Today's Verdict
These days, I think I understand a little more about what warmth in life really means to me.
It doesn't have to be something big.
Sometimes, it's just a simple kind word.
“Have a nice day.”
“Take care.”
“Thank you.”
It can feel a little awkward to say something warm first.
Sometimes, I might even feel a little shy or embarrassed.
But I still want to try.
Because I am beginning to realize that these small acts of courage can make the people around me feel a little warmer.
And strangely enough, they make me happier, too.
I don't think I need to do something extraordinary to make a difference.
Maybe doing my best for one ordinary day means simply noticing the people around me and giving a little warmth when I can.
Even if it feels slightly awkward.
Even if I have to gather a little courage.
Just try.
A small word.
A small smile.
A small act of kindness.
Maybe these little things are much more powerful than we think.
Today's Verdict:
A little courage to share a little warmth
can bring a lot more happiness into my day. 🍀
KR Version
What a lucky day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🍀
What a lucky day!
Today's Verdict
🍀 Today's Verdict
