Tom Kim Wins Asian Games Golf Gold -
16 Years After Korea’s Last Men’s Individual Golf Gold
I love golf, so I naturally pay attention when golf becomes part of a big international event.
And this time, there was some very good news.
Tom Kim, also known as Kim Joo-hyung, won the gold medal in the men’s individual golf event at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
He played the final round at Kasugai Country Club in Japan on October 3.
He shot a 6-under 64 and finished at 18-under 262 for the tournament.
He won by three strokes.
It was also an important moment for Korean men’s golf.
Korea had not won the men’s individual golf gold medal at the Asian Games since Kim Min-hwi won in 2010.
That means it had been 16 years.
A Message From Tiger Woods
There was another interesting story before the final round.
Tom Kim received a message from Tiger Woods.
The message was very simple:
“Just be you. Nothing more, nothing less.”
I like this sentence.
Maybe because it sounds so simple.
But golf is not always simple.
When we play, we often think too much.
We want to hit a perfect shot.
We want to beat our last score.
We do not want to make mistakes.
Sometimes we even try to swing like someone else.
But when we stand over the ball,
we have to play our own shot.
We have to trust the swing we have prepared.
Tom Kim did just that.
Gold in Individual Golf, Silver in the Team Event
Korea sent three male golfers to the event:
Tom Kim, Mun Do-yeob, and Kim Seong-hyeon.
Tom Kim won the individual gold medal.
Korea also won the silver medal in the team event, finishing behind China.
For Tom Kim, the gold medal also means that he receives an exemption from mandatory military service under the relevant Asian Games rules. This will allow him to continue his PGA Tour career without that interruption.
But for me, the most memorable part is still the golf.
A player standing on the course,
carrying the expectations of his country,
and then simply playing his game.
That is not always easy.
Just Be You
The older I get,
the more I understand this idea.
Golf is like that.
Life is like that, too.
I cannot play another golfer’s game.
And I cannot live another person’s life.
I can learn from other people.
I can admire them.
But in the end,
I have to hit my own shot.
And I have to live my own life.
Just be you.
Nothing more.
Nothing less.
Congratulations, Tom Kim.
And today, I think I will enjoy my own golf a little more, too. 😊

“Just be you. Nothing more, nothing less.”
Just be you.
Just be you.
