Two Trucks, Two Very Different Memories -

Two weeks ago, I was driving to a golf course on a mountain road in Jeju.

I was driving at around 65 km/h, following the speed limit, and I was in a good mood. I was looking forward to my round.

Then, suddenly, a truck came out from the right.

It happened so fast.

I slammed on the brakes with all my strength and hit the horn as loudly as I could.

For a moment, I honestly thought,

This could have been a very serious accident.

If I had reacted just one second later, things could have been completely different.

There was also a small truck behind me, so I couldn't simply avoid the situation. Thankfully, the driver behind me reacted well, too.

The truck that came out from the right, however, just drove away as if nothing had happened.

I was stunned.

But I didn't want to ruin my golf day.

So I took a deep breath, calmed myself down, and went on to the golf course.

I didn't tell anyone.

I thought, Everyone came here to enjoy a good day of golf. Why bring this scary story into it?

So I simply kept it to myself.

Then, two weeks later, I met another truck on a Jeju road.

This time, the memory was completely different.

The truck in front of me was moving slowly, and when the driver noticed that I was behind him, he gently moved over.

Then a big, sturdy hand came out of the driver's window.

It was a simple gesture:

“Go ahead.”

I passed him and turned on my hazard lights to say thank you.

And strangely enough, I felt very warm inside.

I kept thinking about that hand.

It looked like the hand of someone who had spent many hours working hard.

I didn't know who he was.

I probably would never see him again.

But one small gesture from a stranger made me smile for a long time.

Two trucks.

Two completely different memories.

One reminded me how quickly an ordinary day can change.

The other reminded me how a very small kindness can brighten an ordinary day.

And maybe that is just life.

Sometimes we are reminded to be grateful that we arrived safely.

Sometimes we are reminded that there are still kind people around us.

Today, I simply came home safely.

And somehow, that felt like enough.

Two trucks, two memories, and one ordinary day in Jeju.

KR Version
