Why I Check the Weather Forecast So Often - 내가 하루에 일기예보를 수시로 보는 이유
I check the weather forecast several times a day.
Some people check the weather just because they want to know if it will rain. But I have a few more practical reasons.
First, walking my dogs!
Ruby and Rich wait for me to take them for a walk. But when it rains, things get a little complicated. I check the forecast to see when the rain might stop. A little later, I check it again.
The weather in Jeju changes so often that I sometimes feel I need to check the forecast every few minutes!
Laundry is another problem.
I dry my clothes outside in the yard. If rain is coming, I have to decide whether to do the laundry or wait.
If I hang the clothes outside and it starts raining, I feel unlucky. But if I don't do the laundry and it never rains, I feel a little sorry that I missed my chance.
You can't win every time! 😀💗
And then, there's golf!
Tomorrow, I'm playing a fun round of golf with some friends from my small golf group at Phantom CC, which is close to my home.
Our tee time is 8 a.m., but the forecast shows a little rain in the morning.
The expected rainfall is 0.4 mm or 1.0 mm.
What does that even mean? Is it going to rain or not? (Smile)
The weather forecast tells us that rain is possible, but as a golfer, I want to know something more important.
Should I wear my rain suit, or can I just play golf as usual?
Of course, I'll bring an umbrella and a rain suit just in case. My guess is that there will be very little rain. Since the golf course is so close to home, I'll simply get ready and enjoy the day.
But wait! There is one more reason I check the weather forecast.
I'm also concerned about Ruby and Rich when I'm away from home.
They have a small shed in the yard where they can stay out of the rain. There is also a long roof overhang in front of the living room. So they have places to take shelter, but I still worry when heavy rain is expected.
I don't want them sitting in the rain while I'm out enjoying myself.
So, my weather checks are all about dog walks, laundry, golf, and making sure my dogs are comfortable.
Sometimes I wonder if I'm checking the weather forecast or if the weather is managing my daily life! 😀💗
Today, I have an English lesson in the morning. After lunch, I'll watch the golf tournament on TV. Then, if the rain eases, I'll head to the golf practice range around 6 p.m.
That's how I plan my day, checking the forecast along the way.
Nothing special is happening. I'm just doing the things I enjoy, taking care of Ruby and Rich, doing the laundry, and playing golf.
But to enjoy an ordinary day like this, checking the weather forecast is surprisingly important.
I guess that, in Jeju, the weather forecast is not just weather information. It's an essential part of my daily life!

Social plans can change, too.
If rain is in the forecast, I sometimes prefer to meet my friends another day. If we don't have to meet on a rainy day, why not choose a day with better weather?
Of course, we can't change every plan because of the weather. But if we have a choice, I don't see a reason to make things difficult.
Now I understand why I check the weather forecast so often. I don't want to plan my whole life around the weather. I just want to make my day a little easier. 😀💗

나는 하루에도 몇 번씩 일기예보를 확인한다.
누군가는 날씨가 궁금해서 보겠지만, 나에게는 조금 더 현실적인 이유가 있다.
일단 강아지 산책!
루비와 리치는 내가 산책을 나갈 때까지 기다린다. 그런데 비가 오면 문제가 생긴다. 비가 그치기를 기다리며 일기예보를 확인하고, 조금 있다가 다시 확인한다. 제주도 날씨는 변덕이 심해서 방금 본 예보도 다시 확인하게 된다.
빨래도 문제다.
나는 마당에서 빨래를 말린다. 비가 온다는 예보가 있으면 빨래를 해야 할지 말아야 할지 고민한다. 빨래를 널었는데 비가 오면 억울하고, 빨래를 안 했는데 하루 종일 비가 안 오면 그것도 아쉽다. ㅎㅎ
그리고 골프!
내일은 집 옆 팬텀CC에서 친한 밴드 사람들과 명랑골프를 한다. 오전 8시 티오프인데, 일기예보에 약한 비가 표시되어 있다.
강수량은 0.4mm, 1.0mm.
이 정도면 비가 온다는 건지, 안 온다는 건지! 기상청은 비가 올 가능성을 알려 주지만, 골퍼 입장에서는 우비를 입어야 하는지 그냥 쳐도 되는지가 더 중요하다. 😀💗
물론 우산과 우비는 챙겨 갈 생각이다. 내 예상으로는 비가 거의 오지 않을 것 같다. 어차피 집 바로 옆이니 준비해서 즐겁게 다녀오면 된다.
그런데 가만히 생각해 보니 내가 일기예보를 확인하는 이유가 하나 더 있다.
바로 루비와 리치가 비를 피할 수 있을지 걱정되기 때문이다.
마당에는 작은 창고도 있고, 거실 앞에는 처마도 길게 나와 있다. 아이들이 비를 피할 곳은 있지만, 비가 많이 오면 마음이 쓰인다. 내가 외출한 사이에 비를 맞고 있지는 않을까 싶어서다.
결국 내 일기예보 확인에는 강아지 산책, 빨래, 골프, 그리고 강아지들 걱정까지 들어 있다.
이쯤 되면 내가 날씨를 보는 건지, 날씨가 내 하루를 관리하는 건지 모르겠다. ㅎㅎ
오늘도 오전에는 영어 수업을 하고, 점심을 먹고, 골프 중계를 보고, 저녁에는 연습장에 갈 예정이다. 비가 잠잠해지는 시간을 살펴보며 하루 일정을 짠다.
특별한 일은 없다. 그저 내가 좋아하는 일들을 하고, 루비와 리치를 돌보고, 빨래를 하고, 골프를 즐기는 평범한 하루다.
그런데 이 평범한 하루를 잘 보내려면 날씨 확인이 꽤 중요하다.
아무래도 제주에서 나의 일기예보는 단순한 날씨 정보가 아니라 생활 필수품인 것 같다.

사람들과의 약속도 마찬가지다.
비가 온다고 하면 약속을 다른 날로 미루기도 한다. 꼭 비 오는 날 만나야 하는 것이 아니라면, 날씨 좋은 날 편하게 만나면 되니까.
물론 모든 약속을 날씨 때문에 바꿀 수는 없지만, 조정할 수 있는 일이라면 굳이 불편한 날을 선택할 필요는 없다고 생각한다.
이렇게 생각하니 내가 일기예보를 자주 보는 이유가 더 분명해진다. 날씨에 내 하루를 무조건 맞추려는 것이 아니라, 가능한 한 내 하루를 편하게 보내고 싶은 것이다. 😀💗
