At 60, Do I Really Have to Slow Down?
I used to think that getting older meant slowing down.
I thought that as I got older, I would naturally prefer quieter music, take things more slowly, and play golf a little more carefully.
But now that I am 60, I am not so sure.
I still love rock music.
Of course, I enjoy quiet music too.
There are days when I want something soft and peaceful.
But sometimes, I still want a strong beat, a powerful guitar sound, and music that makes me feel alive.
And golf?
I definitely don't want to slow down my passion for golf.
Yesterday, I practiced for about 80 minutes.
My full swing wasn't working well at first.
So I picked up my 7-iron and worked on my full swing for about 20 minutes.
Again and again.
I focused on the swing, the impact, and finishing the swing properly.
Then something changed.
During the last 20 minutes, my swing suddenly started feeling really good.
The kind of swing I love.
A sharp, clean sound came from the clubface.
Crack!
The impact felt great.
The swing looked good.
And even my finish felt good.
I couldn't help saying to myself,
“Wow… I'm 60, and I can still make a swing like this?”
And yes, I proudly enjoyed my little moment of self-admiration. 😍😂
For a moment, I didn't care that I was 60.
I was simply thinking,
“Wow. That was a beautiful swing.”
Maybe there is still a part of me that wants to live like I am in my twenties.
Or maybe that's not exactly it.
Maybe I don't want to be 20 again.
Maybe I simply want to enjoy what I love with the body and experience I have at 60.
To keep practicing.
To keep improving.
To hear that beautiful sound at impact.
And sometimes to surprise myself.
Maybe that is also a wonderful way to grow older.
Getting older doesn't mean that my passion has to grow quieter.
My body can slow down a little.
But my heart doesn't have to.
Today, I will practice a little more gently.
Yesterday, I gave my body 80 minutes of golf.
Today, I think it deserves some care.
A little swimming.
A little recovery.
Because I want this body to keep making those beautiful swings for a long, long time.
I'm 60.
I still love powerful music.
I still love a beautiful golf swing.
And I still enjoy having a little “Wow, look at me!” moment by myself.
There are still plenty of moments in my life that make me say,
“Wow.”
And I think that's a pretty good way to be 60.
KR Version
Two little golfers quietly watching over the practice range. I finally noticed them yesterday. 😂💓
